Why? Because they're drag queens? or because they're gay (or maybe they aren't)? What exactly makes this "embarrassing"?

dgreen12 Nov 29, 2014 12:44 am

I'm pleased that AS is sponsoring the event.

Pax and employees and shareholders come in different shapes and colors. It's good to see AS supporting events in the communities in which they do business.

You hear that? That's the thrashing death claws of the kind of people that are quickly fading into irrelevance. Welcome to the 21st century.

Quite. Always embarrassing to out oneself as a closed minded bigot on a public forum.

I actually didn't mind the prayer cards, but sponsoring Drag Queens is much much cooler. :D

ANC Nov 29, 2014 7:29 am

sooooooo

the prayer cards were an outrage? And this is wonderful?
Not going to comment or condemn or condone either one because personally I dont really give a rats butt. Just saying, how tolerant and diverse really is AS......................................

The odds of me going anywhere near that area unless absolutely necessary until the end of the year are quite slim.

One might think that the current event is designed to attract additional passenger traffic in a market where such a sponsorship might be effective. That is what paid sponsorships are about.

apodo77 Nov 29, 2014 10:22 am

Went to two different "Lady Boy" shows in Chiang Mai and Bangkok recently. Both were wildly entertaining and would definitely go back.

No issues with the sponsorship and if in the area would definitely check it out.

No clue why anyone would be bothered by it.

This is a reason i think its sad WN pulled its ads from the Rush Limbaugh. Even if I don't like him, right wing, left wing doesn't matter everyone needs to fly at some point or another.

UAPremierExec Nov 29, 2014 10:42 am

so why not rotate some form of the prayer cards back? Maybe add saying from Dale Carnegie, etc...

jackal Nov 29, 2014 11:35 am

This thread is being closely monitored, as it obviously has the potential to spiral southward in a jiffy. Let's make sure we keep things respectful on both sides and avoid personal attacks in order to keep this discussion open here.

 Sponsoring a community event in hopes of growing your business is entirely different than giving your paying customers prayer cards.

This is not a matter of intolerance - it's good business.

Alaska admitted that they received more complaints than compliments on the prayer cards.

Going way way way OT, as a frequent traveler to the deep deep deep South (i.e., you can't go very much further south), South doesn't necessarily mean bad. Besides, if they spiral too far south, eventually they will go from spiraling counterclockwise to spiraling clockwise. And that would be very dangerous!

Prayer cards cost money (production, weight, placement, etc) yep, one doesn't weigh much but why spend $$ on something that isn't necessary? Prayer cards don't generate revenue. Paid sponsorships are designed to do just that. If Drag Queens on Ice Aren't your thing, perhaps AS could sponsor a monster truck rally to reach out tg those embarrassed by Drag Queens.

Myself, I'd go Drag Queen monster truck rally. :D

Points Scrounger Nov 29, 2014 7:16 pm

Or, they could issue drag queen cards? (Just a thought ...)

Excellent idea!

You really make those bartenders work for their tips, as mojitos are so labor-intensive.

The bartenders would be working, regardless. What you do is make everyone else wait longer for their drinks. And if you don't have enough drinks prior to watching Drag Queens on Ice, the show may fall flat.
