CRJ-700

Hello,

Does any of you know how many CRJ-700 Alaska uses in their fleet?
I can't find the information for that type of aircraft on their website.

Thanks!

Ok I had too much time on my hands All aircraft registered in the US are maintained in an FAA database that you can download.

Here's the breakdown of aircraft owned by Alaska Airlines Inc and Horizon Air Industries Inc:
  • Boeing 737-490: 5
  • Boeing 737-4Q8: 4
  • Boeing 737-790: 14
  • Boeing 737-890: 51
  • Boeing 737-990: 12
  • Boeing 737-990ER: 23
  • Bombardier CL-600-2C10 (CRJ-700): 2
  • Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Dash 8/Q400): 36

This only covers aircraft directly owned by Alaska/Horizon. It doesn't cover aircraft owned by a holding company (such as Wells Fargo Bank Northwest NA Trustee). I haven't figured out how to determine which trustee registered aircraft are used by Alaska/Horizon.

More random numbers: SkyWest owns 36 CRJ-700s. Delta owns 27. There are 270 total registered in the US.

Duh, I can use the tail numbers to figure out which planes are owned by others but operated by Alaska/Horizon:

Wells Fargo Bank Northwest NA Trustee Aircraft Operated by Horizon
  • Bombardier CL-600-2C10 (CRJ-700): 12
  • Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Dash 8/Q400): 8

BCC Equipment Leasing Corp Operated by Horizon
  • Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Dash 8/Q400): 7

Wells Fargo Bank Northwest NA Trustee Aircraft Operated by Alaska
  • Boeing 737-490: 12
  • Boeing 737-4Q8: 3
  • Boeing 737-4S3: 1
  • Boeing 737-890: 9
  • Boeing 737-8FH: 1

I'm pretty sure that's all of them and that the numbers are accurate. I spot checked some of the tail numbers on airliners.net to make sure I wasn't picking up some oddball aircraft that end in "AS" for the tail number but belong to other airlines (such as N777AS).

There are nine CRJ's operated by Skywest in Alaska colors. Eight are subleased from Horizon, the ninth is Skywest own plane.
N215AG
N216AG
N217AG
N218AG
N219AG
N223AG
N224AG
N225AG
N227AG Skywest

The Alaska fleet:
-400 27 (Neil, I think you missed the five combi's and the one freighter.)
-700 14
-800 61
-900 12
-900ER 23

It's difficult to figure out which of the 737s are combis in the FAA database. According to the Alaska site the combis are "737-400 Combi (73Q)". There are only two 737-73Qs listed in the database, neither of which belong to Alaska, and neither of which appear to be combis

At the same time at least one of the 737-400s (490) Alaska planes in the database are combis, for example
N768AS. This plane was included in my totals above. And yet others, such as N767AS, are clearly not combi.

If I add up the total planes I can find registered to Alaska and the others with Alaska tail numbers registered to Wells Fargo I get 135 planes. So there's two missing that must be owned by someone else. I wonder who owns them.

Time to do some more digging

I took a closer look at all Boeing planes with tail numbers ending in "AS" in the database. The missing two planes are 737-4Q8s owned by Wilmington Trust Co Trustee, care of ILFC:

Neither of these are the freighter or the combis, so those must be in my prior totals somewhere.

Mystery solved!

I have too much time on my hands tonight

I dumped all the Alaska and Horizon aircraft (except for those nine operated by SkyWest), including their tail numbers and links to the aircraft's page on airliners.net, to a blog post.

You're missing the odd one out in the tail registrations: N434MK, the Q400 honoring Horizon's founder Milton Kuolt. I always thought that was a nice touch.

Neil, none of the CRJ's you listed on your blog are operated by Horizon for Alaska. They are now flying with Atlantic Southeast/SkyWest/Express Jet for Delta Connection.

There are still two Horizon CRJ's that are unaccounted for:
N616QX, now a Delta Connection plane.
N290RB (the albino) that never flew in Horizon livery.

The freighter/combi list:
Freighter:
N709AS (-490)

Combi:
N762AS (-4Q8)
N763AS (-4Q8)
N764AS (-4Q8)
N765AS (-4Q8)
N768AS (-490)

Thanks Putzy and Kieron, I'll update the list later today!

Edit: Updated with the above changes. Flagged the freighter and combi, added the MK plane and a link to an obituary for Mr Kuolt, and removed the wayward CRJs.

N616QX and N290RB are owned by Wells Fargo and neither are currently flying for Horizon so I'll leave them off the list. Looks like the albino was last seen in Air India colours.

Edit again: What the heck, since Putzy provided the tail numbers, added the Skywest-operated planes to the list.

How many 737s are on order, and what type? Any guesses on what they will replace? I read recently AS is the only US based airline still using 400s. Also, I also read AS was going to phase out the 700 series but this shows there are still 14 of them. I know some of the 400 series are now four rows of first, so I assume that means they are sticking around, but I haven't seen a 700 with four rows.

I haven't seen 4 rows of First in a 734- interesting if they are adding seats.

Haven't heard anything about this. Maybe the poster was on a non-updated -800 and thought it was a -400. I could see this happening since the -400s have been getting the old -800 seats.
