Did anyone purchase a seat on the new SEA-DTW that actually WANTS to go to DTW?

With the DEQM promotion in full swing now, I'm seeing a lot of folks on the MR deals thread and this one who are talking about booking same-day turns to DTW and back (even 2 or 3 times during the next two months). As it seems to be one of the best DEQM promotions in terms of total miles, my wife and I decided to do a same-day turn as well next month....while we normally turn our "mileage runs" into mini-vacations by at least staying one night, this is probably the only city in the Alaska route network that we really don't care to explore any further than we already have in the past (no offense DTW folks ;)).

This made me wonder, are most of you FTers just going and coming back the same-day and who wins the award for most SEA-DTW turns during the next few months?? :) Is there anyone who actually is staying in DTW or who actually WANTS to go there? When it's my turn for the DTW run, I fully expect to see a fair number of flyers getting right back on plane they just arrived on from SEA.

I *want* to visit DTW, and have family in the area, but won't have time as I'm taking advantage of a stop in SEA on a different journey. I've tried several angles but the cost keeps increasing. Think I'll use this next summer though with a lot of friends!

I will use it as a through way option to MKE or CWA or MSN just like I do with ORD

If the DL partnership dries up then I wont have a use for DTW

had a few extra bucks and I was going to fly the innaugural both ways on my own dime even though my previous plans to do it for business never fruitioned but.....I had to buy a new water heater that started to leak like a siv....new water heater and no water damage OR innaugural flights to DTW and water damages for a year.....hard decision(err not really) took me about 15 seconds to arrange the priorities

Does the AS flight use one of the gates in the DL terminal or are we talking a major hike from the AS gate?

If it was hockey season, and the Canucks were playing Detroit, I would stay... but as it is, I don't mind that I'm only in the airport for 1 hour. :)

Alaska's gate is in the North Terminal, which means taking a shuttle and reclearing security to connect to any DL or Skyteam flights.

I figured it was like that...not exactly set up well for connections :)

How was the inaugural? (well I would of been using the 'bucket system' for a few months :o)

When DTW was first announced, I thought it would be a great way to fly through Detroit connecting to Delta flights to places like Cleveland or the east coast.

It doesn't seem to be working that way.

Nope...you're right....it definitely seems that DTW is more of a O/D city rather than a hub connection.

He wasn't able to go....unless you're talking about the inauguration of his new water heater :p

The in-flight magazine makes it sound like a really great place to visit.

I said to my husband "we should go there".

He's been many times, years ago, when the company he worked for did business with GM.

He said, "Uh, NO".
