All 900ER's have slimline seats, though not in first class.

There will be something available, though I haven't heard what it will be.

Saw that this thread hadn't been updated in a while, so just thought I'd ask: anyone know when AS will be done retrofitting the -800s with power and new seats? I read that the -900s (non-ERs) have all been reconfigured.

Not specifically the 800s but the timeline is to be completely finished updating all 800/900/900ER's by the end of 2014. The 900ERs must be getting ready to go under the knife rapidamente about now. I think there's at least one now complete.

Does the vendor end up modifying the seats while putting in power, or are these specialized seats?

Just an assumption but I'd have to think TIMCO has a way to modify the Recaro seats that all 900ER's rolled out with. Unlike the 800's, the 900ER seats are basically fresh from the oven, and wouldn't need to be changed for any other reason than power.

underseat space with new power boxes

My Travelpro FlightCrew4 Tote fits perfectly under any seat on AA's 737, but 3" would definitely make it stick out. I'm in middle (where the boxes all are in coach?) or aisles (where FTers say the space is extra? small w/ Recaro seats) going DCA-SEA-PDX-HNL. Anybody with experience fitting large personal items under the new seats with power boxes? Or think I might need to reconsider my personal item?

Didn't see any pictures of the boxes or underseat space elsewhere in the forum (sorry if I missed pics or discussion - or posting in the wrong place). I can try and snap pics when I fly and post them, but would prefer if the picture is with a bag that fits.

Try searching "dead horse", I'm sure you'll find the discussion. You could also try "footwell" or "foot well", don't remember which.

I have the same bag. You wont fit that under the aisle seat in the new config. I can barely fit anything under the new F seat either.

I hate to be that guy but the 22" FlightCrew3 roller and the FlightCrew4 tote go above now

Nothing new but I'm confused....the power box under (all?) the A & F seats in F is on all 800's? How about 900's? Might affect which flight I take from ANC to SEA! Geez, why does AS put even more pressure on the overheads in F?

Some converted A/C (added new & more seats) also acquired a new life raft (above row 4 Aircraft Left in the overhead bin)

FWIW, I was able to test the underseat space for my laptop bag on a recent trip to OGG (wife decided to sit in 2D instead of 2F as she usually does). It's a Travelpro roller with the mesh drink holder on the side. In any event it was a tight fit but it fit just fine by sliding it in longways instead of sideways. A little inconvenient to pull out to retrieve the EmergenC but it did fit.

Was a bit disconcerted about the power box under the seat in 3A on a retrofitted plane from SEA-DFW today...in F why didn't they mount the box in the dead space in the middle instead of the window seat footwell?

Has anyone witnessed a person using a power strip to charge multiple devices? I carry one in my bag, but couldn't imagine trying it. I did like that Delta has both an outlet below and a USB connection above.

Every single time I'm in an A or F seat in first I ask myself that same question ... the only answer I've come up with is this:

"Because the people who decided on the power box installation location in first class are complete idiots."

The new, lower-riding seats combined with the poor placement of the power boxes provides scant room for storage when you're in a window seat up front.

My work computer bag has to go in the overhead bin and I have another small carry-on as my purse/personal item.

I used to be able to get that small duffel bag containing my purse, water bottle, tablet and a few other items under the seat in front of me and still have some space to stretch out my feet.

Now I can barely wedge the duffel into the cramped space - the storage area is neither tall enough OR wide enough for that small bag - forget about having any space for my feet!

I can barely get the seats to charge one device, let alone more than one. The power brick for my Lenovo W530 trips the breaker on the new in-seat power so it's totally useless for charging big devices.
