To try to make sense of what's all happening between AS and DL, the idea arose during the recent Alaska do to create a compendium in the wiki of the various stages of the current spat. Please add your knowledge where you can!

DL is definitely encroaching on AS' traditional turf. However, we need to keep the proper perspective. DL is beefing up its service at SEA. It is re-starting the old Western Airlines routes (WA served SEA-SFO/LAX/LAS back in the day). But, for the most part, it is using small jet aircraft. DL's express carriers have 100's of small jets that have to fly somewhere. DL is basically committing 6 or 7 of them to Seattle, a small drop in the bucket for DL.
That said, I begin to wonder how long this DL commitment will last. Fares are going to plummet on SEA-SFO because there is simply going to be too much capacity with UA and AS having nearly a dozen flights EACH (then DL and VX having another dozen or so total).
SEA-LAX seems to be a different story. I believe that UA has pretty much given up on the route (except for 2 or 3 CR7's that only UA diehards will take).
SEA-LAS should be more interesting because choices have been limited to WN and AS as of late. Perhaps DL will be able to fill their smaller planes -- they are probably just looking to breakeven here.

Wow. Just Wow. Pretty soon DL won't really need AS for SEA feed. Well maybe still the QX service, but for most routes where DL wants to publish through fares, they will be able to offer DL metal. Presumably these flights are also timed to feed DL's international service... which AS flights aren't always

Remember about a year ago when there was this big hoopla about a joint press conference at SEA involving DL and AS? DL even flew an empty 744 to SEA just for the event (seemed kind of silly since only one flight would actually be using the 744). But then, when it came down to the press conference, it was all about DL. Details as to how AS would contribute to DL's "Seattle gateway" were left very fuzzy.
One can assume that DL tried to get AS to provide more flights at certain times on certain routes to provide feed to DL's international traffic. AS didn't have the capacity to add these flights without making cuts to existing routes, which presumably were making money. So, DL decided to start flights using its own metal. After DL added flights, AS added flights to protect its marketshare. I'm not sure this constitutes "all-out-war" as some make it seem, but more just a practical business decision on DL's part. It will probably hurt AS bottom line for the next couple years, but I don't think DL is going to seriously erode the AS hub in SEA.

Wow. This means war. Wonder how long it is until DL is no longer an EQM partner.
How much capacity does AS need to add to SEA-PDX? They run shuttle service on the half hour. There is no way this isn't war. It would be like AS running ATL-MSP service.
Yes, I think that is exactly the point. The new DL flights are harmonized to provide feed to DL's International service.

But it certainly no longer looks like much cooperation. Competing on bread and butter routes and canceling the ground handling.

While the AS\QX-DL connections seem fairly reasonable\logical to to those of us here in the states, I think we all underestimate how it looks to those fliers originating in Asia. "So once I get to Seattle, I've got to go to the opposite side of the airport to catch a propeller plane on a different airline, all while barely speaking any of the native language? Umm..." Americans aren't the only people on these flights by a long shot.

This problem is in no way unique to SEA. Why not call out any of the Asia airports for having this problem to a greater extent. Ever had to walk all three concourses at BKK to catch a flight? And how about Delta using T5 and T6 at LAX?
The trains at SEA offer easy connections to most parts of the airport, with the end of D being an exception, and there is fairly specific communications as to \train destination.

And isn't DL using parts of the B gates now as overflow? They might need to construct a QX style setup for the RJ lift due to a gate shortage if they keep this up.

DL also seems to occasionally use one of the UA gates like A14. They don't really have the real estate they need to run an easy connecting hub

DL is bumping SEA-ANC up to 2x daily next summer. The new daytime turn mirrors UA's daytime turn on the route.
