To try to make sense of what's all happening between AS and DL, the idea arose during the recent Alaska do to create a compendium in the wiki of the various stages of the current spat. Please add your knowledge where you can!

AS/DL feud aside, it's amazing how far we've come when publicly traded corporations are vying and fighting to sponsor a Pride Parade.

I think sadly in this particular case it's Delta trying to stab AS in the eye, which takes away from the whole reason for the Parade. If I were in that particular movement I would call Delta out on it. It away from the inclusion of all to the exclusion of some. Is that what the Parade is about ?

I haven't been to Seattle Pride, but I know in Portland AS has always been a fun, energetic participant, both in the Parade and at the Festival. It's sad that they have chosen to skip Seattle pride this year. I agree with a previous poster, they could brand themselves "Hometown Airlines", and push to get as much publicity out of it as possible.

For those who don't get the paper, the piece in the Seattle Times had great placement, above the fold on the front page. And the columnist, Danny Westneat, has a good history of sticking it to the authorities when he sees something wrong.

The opportunities for creative marketing types are endless.
pretty sure if AS employees were handing AS gear to non-AS employees at a DL sponsored event, they'd get in big trouble for that as well.

I think that they possibly really "stepped in it" this time !

Frankly their all acting like school kids. And in the end whatever they do we as passengers end of paying for their screw ups

I'm guessing the event "boundaries" for the parade aren't too well defined. AS could very well hand out rainbow-colored tees with the Alaska workmark on it at a random street corner (after obtaining necessary permits, of course), and of course AS wouldn't have control over individuals on whether they wear them and where they head afterwards.

And every arriving/departing AS flight could/should request a path that happens to involve a low, slow flyby of the parade route

Just some musing/observations... I'm shopping for flights for various upcoming trips through July and August. I keep trying to find a half decent fare on AS out of YYC as they continue to be my preferred option, all things being equal (even/despite the Q400s).

Several of the mid-week off-peak dates in August I was looking at into LAS on AS are $420 CAD one-way lowest available fare (for any flight schedule combination). DL options for the exact same dates start at $258 CAD for W (Comfort+) or $344 CAD for A (First Class).

AS is almost $900 CAD one-way for lowest First and an F cabin is not even offered on the YYC-SEA segment - AS fares in F are rarely competitive it seems.

When DL is significantly cheaper for First (much less Comfort+) versus AS on the lowest Economy fare it makes it hard to buy on AS, especially when DL has 3-class aircraft on all flights in/out of Seattle and premium tickets are so reasonable.

Not a whine, so much as an observation of how competitive DL is in this market against AS (largely feeding through the SEA hub).

From the DL forum thread:

And yet another low for DL -- this time in SEA

http://www.kiro7.com/news/local/riva...rade/291565520

Delta released the following statement: "As a partner of Seattle Pride and Pride events around the world, Delta celebrates the inclusive spirit of Pride and all members of the LGBTQ community. While our sponsorship allows us to display Delta branding at the event, Delta has in no way restricted the participation or attire of any individual or group participating in Seattle Pride events. Each year, Delta people proudly walk alongside airlines and other companies in support of the LGBTQ community at Pride events around the country. True to the spirit of Pride and our belief in inclusivity, we welcome participation from all members of the community."
Seattle Pride is also quoted as saying this was a misunderstanding and has asked the Times to retract the article. This seems at odds with what the Times wrote as a direct quote from the PR spokesman, but I'm at least happy the right outcome has been reached one way or another.

UPDATE: I received the following reply to the email I sent to Seattle Pride, along with permission to quote it:

Dear [Zorak]

In light of the recent press I would like to clear the air and state I misinterpreted the contractual obligations set in place for Delta Airlines and I wish to retract my statements made to the Alaska Airline Corporation with regards to participation in the 2016 Seattle Pride Parade. It was not my intention to exclude any groups or individuals, regardless of their company loyalties, employer, and group associations. While our sponsors allow us to produce a quality Pride Parade each year, I misunderstood the terms of one of these sponsorships and misrepresented that contract. I apologize for my miscommunication and any hurt feelings I caused. As always, Seattle Pride stands for inclusiveness and the celebration of all the diversity within our community. As the representatives of the Seattle Pride Board have stated, it is our goal for all members of our community to participate in the Pride Parade, and we will continue to work toward that goal. I sincerely hope GLOBE and Alaska Airlines will accept our invitation to proudly march in the parade, wearing whatever they wish, just as they have always done in the past.

Sincerely

Eric Bennett
President
Seattle Pride
EDIT AGAIN: also made publicly: http://www.kiro7.com/news/local/riva...rade/291565520

I got the same email in response to my email today. It feels like a backtrack due to the publicity to me. I am a long time(aka I am not young) member of the gay community and I do blame the Pride organization for this. Like so many organizations once they have been around for awhile, they forgot that they had a mission beyond their own existence.

DL indeed prices these routes aggressively thanks to their adoption of Y-UP fares, which AS has not adopted (eg, a P fare is a P fare...not an X fare masquerading as a G fare). I have found AS F to be reasonable on O/D when purchased in advance (eg, i had a $172 one way F fare on PDX-SJC last year, when coach was about $120 or something...and OAK-OGG is routinely under $400 one way in F). For connections though, basically forget about it.

Leaving ANC, the GA announced boarding for 'American Executive Platinum & Platinum' instead of the generic 'top tier partner elite' that they did previously. This is the second or third time I've noticed this in different airports so I don't think it's unintentional.
