those of us from the east coast have seen this pig before just different lipstick! It's the old DCA-NY shuttle many different names. I think that up and dow the coast is something we west coasters prefer "our airlines" that being AS and Virgin. Remember American was the last to try and they more or less pulled away.

AS will simply offer double FF miles Poof !! I go up and down twice a month on AS and Virgin

Unlimited polenta on all flights

In all seriousness, AS might need to up their game a bit in Y....for awhile, when all the majors barely provided free beverages and AS still served bags of snack mix, they were ahead of the game, but the tide seems to be shifting....even AA has recently brought back small snacks like pretzels to Y. In the not too distant past, QX was know for it's creative (and locally provided) in-flight snacks like Tim's potato chips....my personal favorite was the tortilla chips and small container of salsa

As long as they offer double EQMs, I'm willing to give up my bag of pretzels

Glad to see DL is leading the pack by offering complimentary meals in F.

I'm pretty sure DL can churn out the SkyPesos™ if they need to.

I'm more interested in seeing if AS takes this seriously. One thing to note is DL is going to transition SEA-SFO to all E75 service. Wonder if AS might start putting E75s on SEA-SFO/LAX routes to be able to do heavy "shuttle" frequencies.

That would give passengers free wine and beer...

I wouldn't pooh-pooh DL's service improvements on SEA-SFO/LAX. They're serious about being in SEA for the long haul. I think that they are to a certain extent going to concede some Alaska markets as seasonal and are gunning for bigger fish, which makes a lot of sense (the corporate market in SEA).

With AS about to be wrapped up in a merger, it's not a bad time to push for a bigger toehold in SEA.

I remember when UA tried this.

It failed then and it will fail again.

Oh I wasn't ragging on their domestic F product at all. In my experience DL is consistently better up front than AS. I just thought it was funny they were highlighting complimentary meal in F when they, and everyone else, have been doing it forever.

As for their AK markets, they've already knocked JNU back to seasonal, and SIT/KTN were seasonal to begin with. I think they'll keep sending the E75 to FAI in the winter months, and ANC is one of the top O&D markets from SEA anyway.

There's a big difference between a sclerotic, dysfunctional airline with significant operational issues and nasty relations between workforce and management trying this at an earlier time, like UA, and an airline like DL with good operations and product and harmonious workplace trying it, at a time where all airlines understand things like capacity discipline.

For AS partisans just to laugh DL's efforts off after their airline just did a no-notice devaluation in Mileage Plan (one of DL's favorite tricks) and is embarking on a merger (and UA's stumbles resulted in no small part from a botched merger)... well, I think that's a mistake. I don't think DL's likely to fail the same way UA did out of SEA.

It seems there's an awful lot of bias regarding a very serious challenge going on by Delta. Just because one is an AS fan should not cause one to wear blinders. The market has really shown its take on ALK the past three weeks or so.

I don't think they're highlighting "complimentary meal in F" so much as "complimentary meal in F on a flight < 900 miles"

Which AS has been doing for a really long time.

I think the DL challenge isn't to be taken lightly but I think AS is up for the challenge. I think we'll see a much different onboard product once the Economy Plus seating is installed, for the better.

I fly SEA-SFO frequently, and AS certainly does not provide full meals in F, unless you consider 2 warmed up cookies a meal on night flights, or a small "snack" salad on dinner-time flights. Considering all the changes, this is an appealing product by DL, especially if they're going to increase frequency with the E75s. Setting aside Mileage Plan and actual operations (DL seems to take a lot more delays into SFO than AS, not sure why), the new DL product is clearly superior.

I like the competition, and hope it leads to AS upping their game.

Indeed. In the food category, Alaska seems to be moving backwards both is availability (increasing the flight distance cutoff by 30 minutes for both meals & the F&C plate) and variety (eliminating the separate ex-Mexico meal and making that cheeseburger the dinner meal), at a time when the competition is going the other way. I'm still hoping the plain pretzels are a stopgap until the new Alaska branded snacks come out.
