Called to see about waiving fee or converting to a no-fee on my Business Visa and got an "interesting" response - 'if you want to keep the MP card, we can only waive $50 - that's the only part of the fee we control...' Probably should have HUCA, but that was enough to keep me.

Any advise as to how to keep a companion voucher that is due to expire live for another six months or so? If I were to buy a refundable ticket for two using the companion voucher for one of them and then cancel the tickets in six months would the companion certificate still be live, or would I just lose it as it would be past the expiration date?

TIA,
Felicity

Key word is to change the tickets instead of cancelling

Is > 2 weeks for them to send me the new card typical?

10/4: Did an online chat to find out where my new card was and also where is my $75 credit for the AF that was charged on 9/12. Was advised that the AF carries over to the converted card and would not be credited. Completely the opposite of what I was told when I called to convert. Escalated to a supervisor and was told the same. The conversion of the card takes the AF with it even though the card I converted to has no AF. He said that the card is no fee only for newly opened credit cards. Told them I was not paying AF on a no fee card and to cancel. What a waste of my time. Should have just canceled on my original call.

Have to rant re BoA. Called today to cancel my mothers card for her. Got same exact offer to change to a no fee card. Told the rep what had happened with my card and she said absolutely COULD convert to no fee rewards card. Said she was putting credit for AF right then. We all know the adage about insanity... But have to see if it works this time. Of course either way I'll be ticked off.

7/17/14 - Called(separtely) to cancel a business and a personal card. No offer to waive or reduce the annual fees. Closed both. I gather I can just get another one in a couple of months with another bonus...

interesting last few posts... I was JUST gonna bump this thread after coming across it via search and reading from the start. I was wondering if folks were keeping these around, it looks like last few posters are cancelling.

too bad there are no good retention offers lately. btw just curious, for those not renewing, how much time do you have to cancel? is it the standard 30 days from when the AF posts? or 30 days after the statement closes in which the AF posted?

same deal for the biz and personal cards?

Cancel right after your 2nd year companion pass posts to your AS account which will be before the AF is due.

Is there a way to get an alert or email when the 2nd year companion pass posts? Or do I have to keep checking every day when it nears the 1 year anniversary.

I don't want to be stuck with the annual fee just because I'm waiting for companion code.
