This is just a scratchpad for now, throwing some links to some commonly-used threads in the AS forum. If you can see the "Edit" button on this wikipost, please use it and help us develop this!

How should I refer to Alaska in this forum?
AS. Alaska's two-letter IATA designation comes from the days when it was briefly known as Alaska Star Airlines. We use AS here to respect that heritage. Kidding; we use it so we can pretend we're part of some sort of elite club of smart people. Whatever you do, don't refer to Alaska as "AK"--we'll either get confused that you're talking about the state or that little discount airline in Southeast Asia known as "Air Asia." Or AA, that's American Airlines. Otherwise, we'll pretend to be confused and will (hopefully) gently correct you so you can be a member of the secret insider's club, too.

Wikis can now be edited by any member with at least 90 posts and 90 days of membership on FlyerTalk. I am looking forward to all of you helping out our fellow members by working on the wiki in this thread to make it organized and useful!

Glad this functionality has been enabled for members. Rearranged/added a little. Changed all links to {{url=Option}value{/url}} format for easier interpretation.

Thanks! One of the feature requests I put in for the wiki project was for auto-parsing of URLs leading to threads (like what currently happens in regular posts), but I don't think that's been implemented yet. Thanks for making it look a lot prettier.

Wirelessly posted (beckoa's PWP wondrousdevice3.0: Mozilla/5.0 (BlackBerry; U; BlackBerry 9810; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.11+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.1.0.694 Mobile Safari/534.11+)

Probably not a huge concern but just realized with this thread wikis are not visible with FT mobile.

Interesting--it doesn't appear on http://m.flyertalk.com, either.

Either way, just get a real phone and use the regular website.

Could we add content for the partner benefits also, specifically AA and DL. There's a general DL benefits thread, a DL upgrade thread(ha!). I think there's a general AA benefits thread also, plus some issues with seat selection.

If there is an AA thread, feel free to find it and edit the wiki to add it! Just go up to the wiki, click "Edit," and then edit it as you would any other post on FT.

Could you add a thread or section similar to "how complimentary upgrades work", but specific to how Gold Guest upgrades work?

+1
Actually, what I am looking for as a new AS flyer is a comprehensive overview of all the possible upgrade routes. From my limited understanding there are basically four ways to get an upgrade:

1) buy a qualifying fare based on your status level for instant up if U>1
2) buy any fare and hope for a complimentary upgrade
3) buy any* fare and use an MVPG guest upgrade (*searching for flights i am seeing that "any fare" really doesn't mean ANY FARE and somehow these are fare restricted -- how does that work and what buckets are NOT eligible?)
4) upgrade with miles from any* fare (see any* fare clause above)

This would be an abundantly useful sticky or wikipost for those of us migrating to AS from other carriers!

You don't need to go here to see all forms of upgrades. Alaska has a page here explaining them all:

http://www.alaskaair.com/content/tra...tClassUpgrades

Really you captured them all (MVPG Guest Upgrades are eligible on all paid coach fares except G and T; mileage upgrades require at least an H fare) except paid upgrades on day of departure.

Since the "ask your questions here" link was for the closed 2015 page, I took the liberty of adding the corresponding 2016 link. I hope that's ok.
