How should I refer to Alaska in this forum?
AS. Alaska's two-letter IATA designation comes from the days when it was briefly known as Alaska Star Airlines. We use AS here to respect that heritage. Kidding; we use it so we can pretend we're part of some sort of elite club of smart people. Whatever you do, don't refer to Alaska as "AK"--we'll either get confused that you're talking about the state or that little discount airline in Southeast Asia known as "Air Asia." Or AA, that's American Airlines. Otherwise, we'll pretend to be confused and will (hopefully) gently correct you so you can be a member of the secret insider's club, too.

Seat Selection
I think a entry on seat selection rules would be great.
I just booked a round trip to SNA for my wife and I and on the PDX-SNA leg only middles open. SNA-PDX no seats. Thought I was going to have a VDB opportunity then remembered the T-24 opening up. I couldn't remember the exact rules though. From reading a couple of recent threads, it sounds pretty simple.
With no status get to grab the seats at T-24 mark, beside the preferred plus. correct?

And can purchase preferred plus seats then too.
One slight asterisk I'd add is I've seen the preferred seats unblocked prior to OLCI/T-24 so don't be afraid to recheck the seat map in advance!

Updated some links to make them current to 2019. I am relatively new to actively posting here and didn't want to prune the tree too much. But some things seem ready to go (I am looking at you Delta benefits as AS elite....) Any opposition to trimming?

For example,
SEA/LAX in June on a Tuesday
First is $229. Main is $89. Saver is $69. upgrade to Premium is $22
You can only upgrade to Premium after purchasing Main.
. Oh, realized you can upfare to First. You have to call AS Reservations to do that.

when you look up fares, you will see three columns.
Saver, Main and First.
For example,
SEA/LAX in June on a Tuesday
First is $229. Main is $89. Saver is $69. upgrade to Premium is $22
You can only upgrade to Premium after purchasing Main.
. Oh, realized you can upfare to First. You have to call AS Reservations to do that.
