This just might be an isolated occurrence... but called in with the wife to check on her application. She was declined because we applied within 90 days since her last application (even though I am pretty sure we were outside that window). In any case the credit analyst stated she could open a new application but she has to move a minimum of $5000 of credit over from the older application to the newer one to be eligible for the welcome bonus. This sounds new.. as I thought it used to be $500??

data point:
applied for a 2nd card 2 days ago (first one opened in Sept) through GCR. no tech issues. applied using firefox, made it through security questions and all the way to the end but pending approval. got a confirmation email right away about my application from MBNA. missed a call today from MBNA, called back and said they wanted to verify some things but approved the app anyways. got a GCR rebate email this morning as well ^

Still no luck signing up with this card on any browsers. Approx what time of the day did you apply?

Cancelled Card - but still active online?!
Hey - just wondering if anyone else has cancelled their AS MC only to find the account still sitting active on their online profile?
I called to cancel it, saying I didn't want to pay the annual fee - all done, but know I am wondering if they simply waived the annual fee and kept the account open?!
Anyone had their account appear active online even though they cancelled their card?

same here. the screen with the pending approval said to call 1-800-404-1319 Monday to Friday, 8am-9pm. there's a reference # on it, and it said (for us) credit analyst is reviewing the file
but this morning i got a GCR pending rebate email
does that mean its been approved? We were going to call mbna today but my fiancee really dislikes calling and i have to remind her every time about the discounted travel to get her going

Same with Mr. Fink's. He canceled over a month ago and the annual fee hit the closed card two weeks ago. He called in and told them he had closed it. As of today, it is showing they did an 'interest adjustment' to reverse the annual fee but the account is still showing open. Guess he'll have to call again too.

Yep, in fact I was planning to call them again today. I cancelled a month ago and they were supposed to move the credit over to my still-active card. Both cards still showing active online and the credit limit has not been moved.

The 'cancelled' Alaska card seemingly appears to be 'active', cuz I can select the Statements tab and select all of the past several monthly cycling periods, and instead of saying the card has been cancelled (like at Amex.ca) it shows "billing cycle dates (No Activity )". I can even select my last bill statement that DID have activity, and am still able to view and download it as a PDF document.
Right now it's not causing me any issue/grief, so I'll just leave it be.

Did the same...in Aug 2014, slightly ahead of MBNA's move to TD's servers. The $5K limit on my World Alaska card was succcessfully shifted over to my SmartCash card, but the 'cancelled' Alaska card still shows online, and with the $5K limit. No annual fee was charged, which would've been due a couple a few weeks after my call to shift/cancel.

Even though MBNA credit specialist said he'd close the card permanently (otherwise the credit limit kind of stays with you for 6-12 months, in case of re-activation) to shift my credit limit to the 0% MBNA Platinum card, that was like 2-3 weeks ago and I saw no new card in mail
Guess I have to call MBNA again

I still get statements from MBNA for the SPG card that I cancelled 6 yrs ago and my BW card that I cancelled a year ago!
I signed up for my 2nd MBNA AS card about a month ago and received it in the mail yesterday. When can I expect the 25K mile bonus. For the life of me, I can't remember how long it took for my first card. TIA

For the points, you need to wait for your first statement to cycle. I saw the 25K on the April statement, but then It took another 5 days (on a Saturday) to appear at AS.com. FWIW, in Nov/Dec, we noticed it took 9 days, so things are on the upswing!
In a few days, after you've set up your new card at mbna.ca (I still can't add new cards to existing logins, and had to create a new account just for this card), you should be able to see at the card account page the date that your statement will cycle...or, just call MBNA and ask. Also, at the associated Rewards website, you should see the 25K (for me, it was 20K + 5K) as "Earned", and for me, back-dated to card-approval date.

Hmmm...it almost sounds like this is their version of keeping the account active for 3-6 months in case you'd like to re-instate it?
I'll keep an eye on mine and if it doesn't show any signs of dropping off by summer (which will have been 6 months), I'll call again...!

mg, it's nice that MBNA has long, deep memories of/for you.

Of course, I will pay the annual fee.
