AS Gold benefits on American??

Does American Airlines allow for free checked bags for MVP Golds (and 75K Golds) when flying coach on American? Gotta get a flight to Cancun seeing as how AS does not fly there anymore.

We get the following benefits...

Complimentary upgrades 7 days out
Priority AAcess
Admission to the Admiral's club or Flagship lounge on day of departure, includes domestic itineraries
3 free checked bags up to 100 lbs, can transport one pet free of charge
300% bonus elite miles per mile flown
Use of concierge key desk for any assistance pertaining to our trip
Waived ticket change fees and fare differences on any fare
Waived standby fees 48 hours before or after your original flight
Blocked row in Y, so we can fly comfortably if our upgrade does not clear

Well, it is the complete opposite... We get nothing

You will have to pay to check your bags on AA

*yes I am bored

The boring response is: NOTHING other than earning EQMs.

Hmm, seems Mexico is more international than Canada and one bag is allowed without charge for all passengers. Waving the card is optional.

You are correct...

"One bag carry-on: No charge

Two bags checked to the Caribbean, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Central and South America: No charge

One bag checked to Mexico: No charge

One Personal Item: No Charge.

Maximum number of 5 checked bags allowed per passenger.

Attention First and Business Class Customers
We are pleased to offer customers in First and Business Class the ability to check three bags at no charge."

I would like to see at least 1 free checked bag between AA and AS. Even that would mean a lot.

Is Gold/75K pre-boarding @ SEA consistent (as the one, unofficial benefit)?

I would like to see AS buy some key routes from AA and let LH/B6 have the rest of AA - good riddance!

+1. This is the same complaint frequent flyers on AA have when booking AS. I've got an upcoming trip to PDX where I'll have to check a bag--it'll be cheaper for me to fly WN, given that issue, although I'd prefer AS.

If 20 dollars is the difference between EQP's and not... I'd choose AS.

It'll be nice to have some reciprocity in 2013 [perhaps]

Hopefully, as it looks like my MVP Gold will like downgrade at the end of '11. Travel is just not looking like I'll have enough to even requal for MVP Would be thrilled if AS offered more perks to AA EXPs in '12 but not holding my breath for it.

If I were to guess, it's the other way around. AS would be quite happy to offer more perks to AA tomorrow (presumably it wouldn't be difficult to implement them now that the infrastructure to do so is in place with the DL reciprocal benefits), but they're not going to do so until they get a commitment from AA that AA will offer similar benefits to AS flyers. Therefore, I'd be willing to bet that it's AA that's dragging their heels and preventing this from coming into being soon, not AS.

Given that AS has said they'd like reciprocal elite recognition with AA explicitly, repeatedly, and publicly, and that AA customer service (not any executive, but still in writing) told me a year or so ago that they do not plan to have reciprocity with AS because it would dilute AA elite benefits too much, I'd say it's a very safe guess that it's AA dragging their feet. That doesn't mean AA can't or won't change their mind, though. Here's hoping....
