Changing reservations online problems

Why is it that if you make a reservation over the phone or call and change something to an online reservation or even pay the difference in coach to F the change link goes away online? I find this annoying and a nuscience. Is there any legitimate reason why or is it a glitch in the system?

Can you get the res back by manually inputting the PNR#? Or is it gone forever ala unviewable partner award reservations?

oh you can view the reservations, its just that the change reservation link goes away any time you call to get assistance with a reservation, just like when you use the BofA companion discount...you cant do online changes.

I bet it is because their online system can only handle one reissue from the original form of payment. Once you have a change, it is generally a reissue with a partial (or complete) form of payment as the prior ticket #. That would be my first guess. The "intelligence" of the system probably isn't up to handling that, and needs a human with experience.

Another quirk I've encountered is that if a ticket was purchased via EasyBiz, you can only make changes when logged in to EasyBiz. You can view the ticket via your regular Alaska login (and print BPs, change seats), but to actually change the ticket, the change link only appears when you're logged in to EasyBiz. Something to remember for business travelers.

Well I trust their pilots ^ :D

as for the IT department at AS well that really lacks something to be desired :td:

So I am still very confused by this whole thing so I emailed reservations to ask them to put the link back, they forward it to the wonderful IT department and I get a plain generic response and I dont even think they checked my reservation or looked into the problem at all.

Thank you for your e-mail. There are some fares for which the link to change the reservation is notavailable online. If you are unable to make the changes online, please contactour Reservations Department directly at 1-800-252-7522, between 5:00 a.m. and12 a.m. (Pacific Time), 7 days a week. One of the representatives there willbe happy to assist you further.
DUH!!!! Had they actually looked at my confirmation numbers they wouldve realized they meet the criteria listed on the website for being able to change online. Im starting to think that the reservations agents remove it when you call so that if you need to change something else you have to call and therefore incur fees or higher fees!

You sent an email to reservations about a problem you're having with the web. They aren't trained to handle web related issues, nor do they have the ability to "put the link back".

If you PM the record locator, I can find out why its not working.

OK that mightve sounded confusing. The reason reservations got emailed is that it was the link to click on within the view reservations page if you have questions about the reservation. So they replied that they were forwarding it to web support. The comment I received back that I pasted here actually came from Web support, not reservations. Thats why I find it so frustrating. I wouldnt expect reservations to know what to do. And thanks for looking helping, now Im gona be dumb and ask what is a record locator? :o

Record locator=your six-letter confirmation code. Also known as a PNR (passenger name record).
