Interline E-tkting with AA

Interline e-tkting with AA was turned on last night. You can book AA and AS codeshare flights on AA via the website. RDU, SBA, PHL, etc.

How do I bring up AA flights at alaskaair.com? I tried to include an LAS-LAX segment (served by AA) in a multi-city itinerary with remaining segments on AS and got an error message. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

What is the itinerary?

Does this mean we should now be able to purchase AA codeshares on the AS website? I can't seem to pull any flights for SFO-LAX that are on AA metal.

keithguy Feb 12, 2003 1:46 pm

I don't think alaskaair.com has the ability to book codeshare segments (on NW or AA).

Westcoaster, I am guessing you are querying LAS-lAX on its own. I believe AS codeshares need to be booked with a connection, so you can't get the LAS-LAX as an AS coded segment unless you get a connection (there are ways to get around this).

RASMguy Feb 12, 2003 2:02 pm

You are correct. I found out that local codeshare markets are not yet available. In terms of LAS-LAX, we don't file fares in the local market (no agreement) so you probably won't be able to find a valid itinerary.

Westcoaster Feb 12, 2003 2:07 pm

I was trying to book a 3 segment trip: SEA-LAS, LAS-LAX, LAX-SEA. Sounds like that isn't possible at this time.

RASMguy Feb 12, 2003 2:14 pm

Were you taking a stop over in LAS and LAX?

Yes. The 3 segments were all on different days.

Therein lies the problem. We no longer have a local codeshare arrangement with AA between LAS-LAX and no longer file fares in the local market. You won't be able to book it.

When will e-ticketing for interlines with NW follow? Or e-ticketing for Alaska/Horizon itineraries with more than 4 segments?

missydarlin Feb 12, 2003 4:56 pm

Westcoaster-

you can book that itin and have it e-ticketed over the phone.

Quokka-

NW to follow within the next couple weeks, provided there are no major system glitches with this run.

More than 4 segment e-ticketing is available now.

I am still hoping that either AA or AS code shares with each other on flighs into and out of San Jose/San Francisco/Los Angeles.

AA has decent flights out of these three cities to cities all over the US and world. But from the Northwest you cannot get to these cities on AA, you need to take Alaska.

Ever since AA bailed on its PDX-SJC route I've been unable to take advantage of former decent connections out of San Jose. I still don't understand this and probably never will.

Thanks, RASMguy (Random Access...something?) and missydarlin for the info. It's good to know that I can at least get e-ticketed over the phone now for itineraries including AA segments.

Also, showing my ignorance here Webtraveler, is there an advantage (other than online booking) to AA flights being designated as codeshares with AS?

Yes, example: If I fly to Hawaii on AA through San Francisco if the itinerary is on one airline the fare is better. Otherwise what you get quoted is the fare from PDX-SFO on Alaska, then SFO-HNL on AA. If it is quoted as one airline the fare is always better.

Additionally, if the AA flight is delayed and you have a seperate ticket on AS there is no guarantee that AS will accomodate you on a later flight if you miss the first one. It is is all on one airline (via code-share) it eliminates some hassles.

Awhile back I was all jacked around by AA when I combined a flight itinerary with Frontier. Frontier was delayed and then AA jacked me around and hassled the heck out of me (you are counted as a no-show when this happens). In the end, I was accomodated, but why the hassle?

So when you do it all on one ticket with one airline (via codeshare) it always works better. That is why.
