A Scripture With My Meal
On a recent AS flight I noticed a little paper in my meal basket that had a quote from Psalms on it. I had never seen one on an AS flight before.
Two possibilities. Which one is it? 1. This is a new thing. 2. Levi has been paying ZERO attention and this has been going on for a while now. Please advise. Best regards, -levi aka eastwest [This message has been edited by eastwest (edited 04-08-2001).] |
At least for 2 or 3 years I think. Not my cup of tea but whatever gets the wheels down works for me.

There have been the meal with a prayer for a bit longer than 2-3 years. I can't remember the first time I saw that, but it has been several years.

Thanks all! I guess I am out of the running for the "Sherlock Holmes Oberservation Award", eh? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif

I was born and raised in Anchorage, doing most of my flying on Alaska for the past 23 years, usually doing a few ANC/SEA trips a year.
Growing up, I thought it was normal airline practice. I don't know how long Alaska has been doing it but I know it's been a long time. They had them on my ANC/ORD flights a few weeks ago, as well as from Anchorage to Juneau, Juneau to Yakutat, Yakutat to Cordova. -Robert |
When they were giving out gold pentants they were giving out the little verse with meals, the gold stoped i the early 80's as I remember
|
They've been giving out the little scripture verses with meals on AS for as long as I've been flying AS -- since I moved to the west coast seven years ago -- and probably longer. I rather like it. I don't know any other airline that does it.

Not being one to shy away from pointing out the obvious, but being Buddhist I would really appreciate having some scripture from MY sacred texts included with my meal !!
Do you think I could pre-order that ? |
I have never not noticed them, so its been over 15 years of flying AS for me.
I do have a moslem friend who asked that they not be included on his meal tray. I think it worked for him. I remember the old seat occupied signs in inuit, those are the best souvenir. |
Wombat,
I see your point. However, Psalms are pretty neutral and are just generally about faith. I suppose they are among the most "inter-faith" scriptures in all of religion. I would be less thrilled about receiving a scripture saying "Christ is Lord" or something (and I am Christian) as that would be objectionable to some. It seems like a little thought of "thanksgiving" is probably A-OK. I wouldn't mind seeing it more often. Just my opinion, -levi aka eastwest |
