1000x the boarding pass printing from a kiosk.

So annoying. And I have reservations that the app rejects loading (Alaska, no help) and it's just such an idiotic policy.

Do it Alaska or make your app bullet proof.

Out of curiosity, why is this necessary? I literally never had the need to do that, but I've seen it requested here multiple times, just curious to understand why.

Well.

In the past I've had the Alaska app refuses to check me in while traveling because it says I had already checked in. So go wait for a boarding pass.

Right now I have two one way return trips that the app says "error loading", even after all re-install. I can't access those in the app. I won't have a computer or printer so for both of those I will have to go wait in line.

I too would also love to not need a printed boarding pass, but in multiple ways and on multiple times the Alaska app has not provided me the ability to do so.

Disabling kiosk printing is bean counting at its worst IMO.

That's a deep subject, as the saying goes. ;)

I can't recall the Alaska app, now at 8.3.2, being the culprit for not having a boarding pass. International travel may at times require a checkin agent to look at your passport in order to issue a boarding pass, but that's something else.

I run NordVPN on my devices, and its Threat Protection when enabled tends to block putting a boarding pass in the iPhone wallet, but that's about it for me.

Congrats on your successes.

1. Just randomly had the boarding pass disappear from my app as I was boarding...so annoying.

2. My teens don't have any desire to have the AS apps on their phones so it would be nice to have a paper boarding pass to give them to scan on their own.

Did they disable the ability to print your boarding pass at home?

Add the boarding passes to your Apple Wallet instead of scanning them from the unreliable app. You can then AirDrop each pass to a different kid even if they don’t have the airline app. Two birds, one stone. Don’t know if this works with Google though

edit to add: I actually like the app quite a bit nowadays but it specifically struggles with state changes around rebooking, check-in and boarding

Does everyone fly from home to somewhere and then drive back or just permanently stay there? ;)

Perhaps Alaska accidentally joined the OneWay Alliance?

Sorry, did they disable the ability to print from your hotel, Fedex office, common use airport kiosk, etc. It's strange to me how there are some folks on here who try to do mental gymnastics to make their argument that Alaska is "crashing and burning."

Agree, especially with their IT situation. In the last year I have dealt with two instances where the app was down and gate staff had to manually process passengers during the boarding process. This required ID checks and delayed the departure by 45 minutes. Anyone that added the pass to the wallet while the app was functional was fine, but most passengers did not do this. To their credit, gate agents encouraged people to line up and have them print boarding passes for them to try to process as many of these as possible before the boarding time. This outage impacted every single flight in their entire network for about two hours each time.

It's penny wise, pound foolish. Whatever money they saved by doing this was gone the first time the app went down. The subsequent app outages have undoubtedly cost them more than this has saved, and will continue to do so. After the round of outages in October, I decided to avoid AS when possible and have been happy with DL and UA. I'll fly AS out of PAE but SEA is a much harder sell for me given the alternatives.

Always, always, always do that for this very reason! In fact that should be an automatic default feature in the app. I think AA just added that to their app.

Right, because people should be encouraged to go use keyboard-logger-infested hotel computers or find a nearby FedEx office before their AS flight.

As for common use airport kiosks, yes, I believe they disabled the ability to use those AFAIR. They cost money and AS wanted to save money.

I am sorry, I think you got lost here. This is the “Things AS competitors do better that AS could implement” thread. The one you seem to be desperate to revive was

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/alas...g-company.html

I think I mentioned before that you don’t need to engage with every thread that in some form suggests that AS may not be the best airline on this planet and could do some things better than. There is, IMHO, nothing wrong with someone to suggest that Alaska could bring back kiosks, in a thread titled “Things AS competitors do better that AS could implement” given that major competitors do still have kiosks. You (and maybe I) may not believe that is the most burning issue… but do you really need to debate that?

What is your suggestion for something AS competitors do better that AS could implement?

PDXPremier Apr 25, 2026 4:09 pm

As a general rule, I think we can all agree that any thread started by PDXPremier is always insightful, creative, fun, and worth your time....kinda like the airline we all know and love!

TravelingZoomer Apr 25, 2026 4:13 pm

As someone who gives more grace than most to AS in this forum I must concur that their app is for lack of better terms, 🐶💩
