ID checked at AS gate

Expericed twice this month that TSA was checking IDs before boarding, I know this is something random that they do from time to time, but what are the odds to run into it twice in 2 weeks.

TSA do at-gate ID checks when they have nothing better to do. January is typically a very low period for business and leisure travel, so it's not surprising that TSA is finding makework for agents who would otherwise be sitting on their thumbs.

For some reason I recall this as being especially likely at Anchorage?

All the time at IAH when I was flying UA. ID check. random pat-down baggage checks. just more security theatre. Don't they realize it makes it look like they messed up? I actually believe the ID checks are in cahoots with airlines for revenue management purposes.

TSA stepped up security after the stuff in Paris.

Ah so theater is correct. Its so nice the government supports the arts but i think that money needs to be saved for the arts in schools and youth centers

The copycat lone wolf, if there is one, will be an airline employee. The gun smuggling at whatever that airport was should have been a wake up call. They had all their documents in place.

In Canada, airport security doesn't check ID. The airlines do it when you board.

In Australia its even better, you don't even need a boarding pass to get through security.
