Rows Missing on Seat Maps?

I have a trip planned for FAI-SEA-DCA-PDX-ANC-FAI next month. On the SEA-DCA leg I'm way in the back of the bus, so set a seat alert with TripIt for something forward of the wing, aisle or window. And today I got a notification that something had opened up, 13D.

BUT when I go to my reservation on AlaskaAir.com, the seat map is missing rows 12 to 14 for that flight. IOW, goes from 11 right to 15. So I can't grab that seat??? The FAI-SEA flight is the same thing. DCA-PDX has row 12, but not 13 or 14. PDX-ANC has all the rows! And ANC-FAI has them too (but that's a Q400, so a different map).

What's up with that? Is this something that I've just never noticed? I looked at the SeatGuru.com maps, some configurations are missing the rows, others are not. Maybe I just fly in row 7 too often....

And if the planes don't include those rows, why? I guess I can understand leaving out 13 (not that I agree with it, if that's the case), but the others?

Thanks!
Don

Check out:

http://www.alaskaair.com/content/tra...-aircraft.aspx

You can find seat maps for all the planes there, and there may be different configurations for each plane type.

There are missing row numbers to ensure that some rows are the same between all 737 plane types. Row 6 is always the first row in coach, row 15 is always the non-reclining row before the exit rows, and rows 16-17 are always the exit rows.

Okay, thanks! So it's just something I never noticed before.

And it seems that TripIt's seat alert function needs some tweaking.

I would guess that there was an equipment swap, and in doing that, row 13 had to be zeroed out, and TripIt saw the empty seats, thus the alert, but then AS changed to a plane without row 13 and TripIt hasn't updated.

TripIt is usually pretty good, but I have noticed glitches when an airline swaps equipment.

So, if there's a row 13, it must be a 900 or 900ER. The reconfigured -800s have a row 12, but no 13. The reason for skipping rows is so that the exit rows are the same (16, 17) on all aircraft. They probably swapped equipment between a 900 and 800.

right, the reason the rows are now missing or not in numerical order was because of all the complaints from elites being removed from exit rows in the event of a/c swaps so AS made all exit rows have the same numbers so in the event of a/c swaps the seat changes were laterally made and keeps you in an exit row
