OneWorld Ruby Baggage Allowance Waived
Booking with Alaskan Airlines LAX-MEX return on their website. Does anyone know if Oneworld Ruby FF gets baggage allowance waived. Or You'll probably have to book via AA and get the Alaskan Airlines operated flight to qualify for waived baggage?
Thanks. |
Alaska Airlines is not part of OneWorld or any other alliance, so alliance membership is not sufficient to waive any bag fees.
If you are AA Gold or above and use your AA frequent flyer number, the first 2 bags are free on AS-operated flights. |
Everyone gets the first two free on AS' flights LAX-GDL/MEX... though apparently only between Nov 15 and Jan 15

Thanks for the quick response. I managed to find a flight via AA but operated from AS. As I am a QF Silver member & know that I get waived luggage fees flying with AA.
Cheers. |

Cheers. Hopefully you are travelling Nov 15 - Jan 15 where evidently 2 bags are free for everyone as noted above. |

For the purposes of bag fees, the marketing or codeshare flight number does not matter. Only the operating carrier matters.
http://airconsumer.dot.gov/rules/webnotice_04012009.pdf (I'm an AA flyer but haven't studied the C of C to see if the OneWorld luggage allowance is in the C of C, or is instead listed as a frequent flyer program benefit.) Try to get the fees waived upon check in. If that fails, keep the receipts and send a request for refund to AA, copying the U.S. Depart of Transportation. I suspect you will receive a refund. http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/CP_AirlineService.htm |

Actually, there's a DOT guidance letter that repudiates this in international codeshare service. If the OP has an AA-coded ticket on an international journey, the AA contract of carriage applies.

passengers traveling to MEX get 2 bags free any time of year.
During the Nov 15 - Jan 15th time frame, they are allowed a MAXIMUM of 2 checked bags, period. No overweight, no oversize, and no excess. |
Found out from the AA lounge that as I booked via AA website (But flight operated by AS) that I do get OneWorld Ruby privilages. So waived check in bags. Just wondering if you can use the AC lounge as well despite you flying on AS metal?

Enjoy exclusive access to premium airport lounges around the world as an equivalent oneworld Emerald or Sapphire frequent flyer member. Members of oneworld airline frequent flyer programmes with the equivalent of oneworld Emerald or Sapphire status can use any lounge offered by any oneworld airline when departing on any flight marketed or operated by any oneworld member airline, no matter in which cabin class they are flying. Emerald tier frequent flyers can use First Class, Business Class or frequent flyer lounges. Sapphire tier frequent flyers are welcome in Business Class or frequent flyer lounges. As an Emerald or Sapphire member, your lounge access is regardless of which cabin you are flying in. Emerald and Sapphire members may invite one guest to join them in the lounge. You must be prepared to show your frequent flyer membership card, with oneworld Emerald or Sapphire status, to access a lounge. Access to First Class lounges is restricted to passengers flying in the lounge operator’s First Class cabin or to cardholders with oneworld Emerald status, regardless of which oneworld airline or cabin they are flying. |
I've got a QF Club membership which gets me into the AC lounges.
