Probably because it's the last flight of the day and any late connections will delay the flight. When I flew to JAX a couple of weeks ago AirTran delayed the flight for almost an hour because the rest of the JAX flights were full and couldn't afford any missed connections.

El Perro is quite right. There's a list of criteria for holding flights, and that one just seems to hit them all. It's the last flight of the day, so it's a) more likely to be "dominoed", and b) need to wait for people connecting. It's also almost always full to oversold. Plus, no one is connecting on to anywhere else (on AirTran).

Flight is supposed to leave at 2105, here are the numbers for this month up through today: 2141, 2143, 2144, 2153, 2300, 0028, 2119, 2127, 2155, 2359, 2203, 2123.

What I don't see is why they just don't block it for an hour longer. When it turns around and comes back it almost always pushes a few minutes early anyway.

Don't want to get away from the topic at hand, but I find the 59.0% on time arrival rate for Alaska Airlines quite shocking! Is there a reason why three out of five Alaska Airlines flights are always late?

What happened on the 5th and 6th of this month? Was Cindy already a week ago? Time flies when you work a regular job and aren't in school....

Delta and other airlines will usually hold the last flight until as many connections as possible can make it.

Alaska is having a lot of operational problems right now. Their unions are starting to cause trouble and they are handling a lot more traffic than normal.

Out of ATL, my home, I consider anything on any airline that leaves within about an hour of schedule to be on-time. Sometimes it does seem that every airplane in the world is here at the same time!

Thumbs up AirTran Permanently Correcting Problem

HERE IS THE OFFICIAL RESPONSE FROM AIRTRAN:
It's the last flight of the night from ATL to LAX; there is an internal tracking system that somehow missed this flight to adjust the block and put an emphasis on getting it on time. It is humiliating to on the list, but inexcusable to be late 100% of the time.

Ok - points I guess for addressing this, but doesn't it seem like someone should have noticed? I mean, when it's every single day!

Better than publicly ignoring it though.
