Changing, Cancelling or Repricing a Rewards Ticket

I searched around a bit (even used google) and couldnt quite find this answer.

Are tickets booked using A+ Rewards fully cancellable w/o penaltyi.e, will the credits go back to my accounts. Currently I get my points back when I cancel a WN RR ticket.

Also, what about Business Class tickets purchased using A+ Rewards? The T&Cs say that all Business Class tickets are fully refundable but doesn't really give any clarity regarding award tickets.

Essentially, I see lots of award availability to the Caribbean over the holidays all in Business Class. If I book it now and if I keep checking and a few days before coach becomes available, can I rebook and the surplus credits (8 per ticket) credited back into my account?

Thanks! Would really appreciate some experiences.

From AirTran's FAQ:

"What happens to my A+ Rewards credits if I cancel a Reward flight?

Your A+ credits will automatically be re-deposited to your account. Should you have A+ Rewards credits that have past their expiration date, those A+ credits will not be re-deposited. Please allow up to 72 hours for this process. If you believe your account is not current or have any other questions, please call the A+ Help Desk at or send an e-mail."

Although I have not found a written policy generally A+ Rewards tickets are allowed one change, additional changes result in a change fee.

Once A+ Rewards seats for a flight become unavailable it is very uncommon for additional seats to show up later, although it can happen.

A+ Rewards seats to Caribbean destinations seem difficult to get. It may be because they are more restricted than other flights or simply due to their popularity. A+ Biz are more available but also go quickly.

A+ Biz Seats are fully cancelable and changeable as often as you like. I have never changed a A+ Biz to an A+ Reward but I see no reason why it wouldn't be possible, it will probably require a phone call if you are using the same credits.

A note if you are A-list at Southwest make sure Airtran has you as Elite, you may need to call Airtran.

Thanks folks.

I went ahead and booked 3 RT Biz Tickets using 96 A+ Credits transferred from my WN RR account. I'll keep watching to see if Coach availability opens up and rebook whatever I can.

I am currently Airtran Elite which I matched from WN last year. I just checked and it expires before my trip so I'll have to call and get it extended, although if I am travelling in Biz Class on a Reward ticket, I am not so sure it matters.
