New "primeclass" lounge at SAN

SAN recently opened a new Federal Inspection Station on the western side of Terminal 2. As part of that construction, an additional ~10,000 square feet of space became available for a new lounge. It looks like the Airport Authority signed a lease with TAV America (whose parent company operates primeclass lounges in other countries) back in April (pages 165-172 of the April 2018 meeting minutes). The fact that other primeclass lounges are on Priority Pass also probably explains why SAN suddenly started showing up on the PP website recently.

As for opening date, pages 166-172 of the most recent board meeting agenda indicates that the space will be available in two phases: ~6,700 square feet in September 2018 and the remainder in July 2019. I don't know if that means the lounge will be opening in September or if TAV will be able to commence construction on those dates.

BTW it looks like PP was proposing to build The Club @ SAN using ~6,2000 square feet of that space but of course, that bid lost out to TAV's.

So I think this is where the lounge is going to end up. This was the original exit from the westernmost gates to baggage claim before the FIS was moved/expanded. Unfortunately no signage yet.

There are also glass doors immediately across next to an under-construction Hudson News, though peeking through the cracks it didn't look like there was 10,000 sqft worth of space there.

BTW nothing new regarding it in the last couple of board meetings either.

If it's what I'm thinking of (private car waiting for you at the gate to drive you to your next gate), legacy hub airports in the US already offer it. I'm not sure SAN will get it any time soon, however, considering that AS and WN are the only airlines that even remotely consider it a hub.

That said, it will be nice once T1 is rebuilt and connected to T2 airside.

Hmm, even in Y, with *G a few years ago at PVG, CA offered buggy service from security to the (subpar) lounge.

Do you know of any US lounges from where one can directly board a flight?

from the lounge = emirates at JFK (i did it flying eos airlines)
if IAD still has mobile bus things, maybe some via lounge?

Private Suite is first paid terminal in US including immigration
hope it means signature can expand elite class in US
US airlines offering tarmac transfers do not sell it AFAIK
whereas buggy is easy and i think not uncommon in general

I hope they raise their game as I am familiar, way too familiar with most 'Prime Class" lounges operated by TAV, and they would have been last considered great in 1997 or so,,,,,,,,,,,,,even their newer builds in places like Tbilisi!

I haven't been in a primeclass lounge but I tend not to have high expectations for US lounges in general. I suspect it'll still be fairly decent compared to other US options, but we'll see.

I believe you can board a flight directly from the BA lounge at SFO, but perhaps for only some equipment types.
