5 and a half hours at TXL
 
I have, due to schedule changes, 5 hrs 30 mins between flights at TXL airport between 11.30am and 5pm on a Friday. Does anyone know what the area around TXL is like and if there is anywhere nearby which would be worth going to lunch for? We could go to the centre but it might be a bit rushed and would prefer somewhere a little closer.

Closest area worthwhile going to is either the Kurfürstendamm area or the historic centre. Busses are frequent and take about 20 minutes.

Anywhere in central Berlin is really only 20-25 minutes away, and the return security to gate is very quick at Tegel

If you are worried about traffic going too far into the city, the area around Charlottenburg palace is easily accessible by public transport from the airport and offers a decent variety of restaurants.
