Read a few pages back, there are reports of angry cancellation letters sent by AB when it was clarified that matched accounts were not actually owned by users located in DACH countries.

Ask your cousin to put your name on the letterbox, at least temporarily.

Has anyone attempted a USA-based status match recently, with or without the purchase of a transatlantic airline ticket on Air Berlin?

They are apparently matching USA-based members without bookings.

So what happened above was an isolated incident, or their policy changed AGAIN?

I'd say that was an isolated incident.

No so sure about that. I just tried to get a match and was told I needed to provide proof of US address and had to show a European trip (on Air Berlin) within the next year.

Well I guess this is a policy change.

Got the same thing today.

The next question is if a refundable ticket or award ticket works ....

Doesn't AB charge a service fee for refunding a FlyFlex fare?

Would be good to know. I have an award ticket this summer with TATL flights on them.

Are they still making the statuses valid from 12 months of the request date (not calendar year)?

It seems AB is back to requiring a TATL R/T on AB metal for status match. Just received this today for two different accounts:

"Customers with residence in the US must prove a booking confirmation incl. booking number of an airberlin long haul flight between US and Europe (return ticket).
This flight must be operated by airberlin and take place in 2016."

As someone who flies AB regularly I think this is good news. Giving away gold cards to tons of people who are never going to use your airline isn't going to help you make any profit, even more so when you're already struggling.
