I'm a little unsure if it really is an 'inconvenience courtesy' since I'm a US citizen claiming EU regulations, or they're trying to low-ball me for something I'm legally owed.
You should stop watching Fox News (or the US-centric view on the world)!
In countries like Denmark, Germany ... your citizenship doesn't matter, whether you can make a EC261/2004 claim.

I actually got impatient before I read your reply and responded back thanking them for even acknowledging my inquiry but still kindly requesting the cash under the regulation.

But that is the correct advice, since they responded the next day asking for my checking account info to deposit the 250. Win!

Hopefully this recent data point will help some Googler down the road in the same scenario.

Hello,

here my situation:
- FRA CTA leaving the 8th April @ 10:50 arriving 13:15 got cancelled 10 days before departure.
Was rebooked into
- SCN TXL CTA departing 8th April @ 6:40 arriving at 13:00

I claimed for a compensation as the new departure time was 4 hours before initial schedule.

Got a 35€ email voucher (which I have not used) and claimed again for compensation.

What is your latest experience with such a situation?

Mother's Day halved !

May 14th: AB8622 DUS-GVA cancelled due to mechanical problems.
Rebooked on LH007 via FRA.
Then LH1218 FRA-DUS delayed.
Actual arrival time @ GVA > 4 hrs.

Should I first claim via direct registered mail and then proceed when no satisfactory offer (or no response) and only then move to a professional service ?

Thanks in advance !

You should claim the EUR 250 via email - and wait for 4 weeks.
AB will always deny your claim. You should, however, press on.

Should I first claim via direct registered mail
A waste of time and money -> when AB response to your claim (the denial), you have the proof, that AB received your claim.

Thanks !

Would you mind and elaborate on why it would be EUR 250 ?
Is it because of the distance involved of <1500 km ?

In this case, should the claim be to AB or LH? AB did the right thing, but LH had the delay... so do passenger claim from AB and they in turn claim from LH?

In this instance however you would claim against the original airline that you booked with and not the carrier operating your replacement flight."

Just as a data point from my end:

AB has been unnervingly unreliable over the past months, but they have paid several claims for compensation under the EC rule without shenanigans.
It just took them a while to respond to the complaint (several weeks), but its the result which matters for me.

Contacted a few weeks back regarding a cancelled flight on AB8730 TXL-LIN, which is an AB flight operated by AZ aircraft and crew, but has no AZ flight number. I hoped that this wouldn't be to much of an issue, but just got a response saying that they are not the operating carrier and that it should be routed to AZ.

I contacted AZ with the same information -- but this seems like a sticky situation and can imagine AZ's response being along the lines of "it was an AB flight with AB flight number." Any other experiences with such kinds of wet lease flight claims?

Just wait for the response from AZ.

I believe the AOC counts of who operated the flight.

If both AB and AZ claim that they did not intend on operating this flight with their AOC, I would write to the LBA and complain that AB/AZ intented to fly without an AOC (which is a gross violation of the law and could lead to severe punishments).
