Not sure what AY does that is great, except that it's great that AB elites have another exit path from AB courtesy of AY too.

Haha I am getting that now.

The promotion seems to have ended now. The German and English sites have been taken down. Even after two emails to them, no upgrade and no reply! Oh well.

Typical of AY sorry to hear it did not work out... I am surprised they withdrew the offer already. Seems like a win win...

Received my Silver status (yawn) and am still waiting for them to process my challenge. My emails were answered indicating that the process is still ongoing. I suspect the Finns didn't expect such an onslaught from the Germans - they never do ;-)

++++

Thank you for contacting Finnair Plus. You will receive the Finnair
Plus Silver-status within 7-14 days from sending the documents. After
this you can gain Finnair Plus Gold tier with special tier limits:

collect 40 000 tier points or 23 qualifying flights before 31.3.2018.

If you have sent your documents and details a while ago but have not
received a response yet, please send them again to this email:

[email protected].

Wishing you a good weekend.

Kind Regards,

Finnair Plc

Have you already flown 23 legs/40k points yet? Otherwise nothing to process for AY

So I ended up forwarding my initial request that I sent to [email protected] to [email protected] and [email protected]
and suddenly today my account has been upgraded to Silver.

No confirmation via email though.

I wonder if they’ll match non-German residents, too. Once I get an AF flight booked, I’ll try. It’s not OW but having AF status wouldn’t hurt!

Let us know. It is quite interesting. I have to go to France in a few weeks, I can still decide which airline ...

I think I’ll try it next week. I also did a LA and EK status match today using AB platinum, and so far, it looks promising. I’m gonna be pleasantly shocked if I get status with 3+ airlines thanks to failing AB!

Using the email mentioned in the article above, I received a reply they couldn't assist with this request.
