J Seating on the A330

First time flying AB here, and I'm traveling with a companion. We wanted to get the honeymoon seats next to each other so we can talk during the flight in row 3EF. Unfortunately on the return 3EF is taken. What's better 1EF or 5EF?

Much of a muchness really. The advantage of row 3 is that it isn't adjacent to galley/toilets, which applies equally to rows 1 and 5.

So since row 3 is taken, you're saying 1 and 5 are basically the same?

Yes. Only slight possible advantage of row 1 is that you would get served before row 5.

Does AB often run out of meal choices when they get to the back? From seatguru looks like row 5 is also closer to the bathroom. Since I never been on the aircraft I'd appreciate any advice. Right now we're in row 5, but I can move us up to 1.

Never had any trouble with that kind of thing - in my opinion the service on longhaul J with AB is excellent. It's a relatively small cabin and I have always found the FAs very attentive and the service prompt.

One more small point regarding row 5 is that whilst it might be nearer to the toilet, that toilet can sometimes be encroached upon by those passengers at the front of the Y cabin. I actually believe you would be better off in row 1 for toilet access as well.

Good choice. Just thought of another advantage - Row 1 also sounds a bit "more important" than Row 5!

Have a good flight!

Definitely row 1. Row 5 near lavatories where economy passengers congregate plus Y galley.

The non-honeymoon middle seats on AB are quite distant from each other. Have you considered across the aisle from each other? You may actually end up closer than were you in row 1 or 5.

Hadn't thought of it, but think I'll go with row 1
