Booking via the AU site

Hi all, just a couple of questions regarding booking using the AU website.

Currently on the co.nz site the cheapest AKL-LAX return fare is $2300, however the cheapest SYD-AKL-LAX-AKL-SYD fare on com.au is $975 AU return.

1) Could someone book the ticket originating in SYD but cancel the first leg and depart from AKL instead?

2) It appears you can't log in with your NZ airpoints number when booking on com.au. Can you book and then add it later on through the call centre?

You cannot just cancel one leg and depart from Auckland without a large financial penalty or losing the entire ticket - however you could buy a cheap EK/DJ/AR flight across for $100 and start the journey there. You'll still be saving cash. On the return, book a stopover at Auckland or just have the bags tagged to AKL from LAX and just never take the onward flight to SYD.

I wouldn't use AR across AKL-SYD they are never on time, they usally dont take off till about 11am or later.

With that price saveing, I Would fly over on NZ the night before & get a hotel on wotif.
