A321neo Grounding and Air NZ Schedule Changes

https://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/trave...uch-a-big-deal

I have 2 domestic flights scheduled for next March--AKL-ZQN and ZQN-AKL-ROT.
Looks like Air NZ has removed all A321 flights from the domestic schedule because my flights are no longer available for purchase and AKL-ZQN is down to just 3 flights/day from Feb 3ish.
My travel itinerary/flight times are not very flexible so Iʻm wondering if I should try and get rebooked now on alternate flights w/ comparable times to my original flights (a midday AKL-WLG-ZQN flight would be a good alternative since the day Iʻm flying the 3 AKL-ZQN flights are at 6:45, 7:45, and 19:25 w/ no midday nonstop options) or should I just wait to see how things settle out.
I have not received any notification from Air NZ.
Any advice from those familiar w/ Air NZ will be greatly appreciated.

Mahalo!

Expect news to come out shortly. Rescheduling right now night carry some risk of further schedule changes.. But could also get you a better flight.

There are going to be a lot of disruptions, but luckily the NEOs are mostly TT.

Sitting here desperately hoping that the Chch - Sydney flights I've booked for taking the wife to see Taylor Swift in late Feb aren't too badly disrupted! Otherwise I'll be having to pony up for Emirates first class or whatever is left.

Flying SYD-ZQN-CHC return at Christmas so glad it seems to be out of the disrupted period.

Yeah that's all I'm interested in. I don't care at all if the flights are moved on the same day (e.g. I need to depart earlier or later) but what I'm nervous about as I'm travelling for a specific event is finding the flight is cancelled with no alternative provided and I'm unable to secure something on a different carrier. Emirates and Qantas seem to have a bit of capacity for the dates I'm travelling, so I guess I'll just have to keep my ear to the ground and act swiftly if needed.

If critical, book a fully refundable flight now on one of the alternatives.. as a form of insurance.

Good idea, I think I'll do that actually. Part of me is hopeful Air NZ won't can the Taylor Swift 'fan flight' because it would be a PR nightmare seeing they've made quite a big deal about it on social media, but then again when do airlines care about bad press these days? Thanks for the suggestion.

Judging by how popular slots in ZQN and SYD are these days, I bet if anything, those flights are probably safe.

Had it before that they take a flight off sale then swap aircraft, or return it to sale as is... always seems to take an age though

Just to add to this Air NZ announced yesterday a 2nd additional leased 777 will be joining the fleet primarily for TT services while NEOs are parked up.

Any info on when or where from? I.e. whose cabin will it have?

CX 77W I think. This version of the Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300ER (type 77K) is configured 40J 32W 296M and features Safran Cirrus II seats in business class.

Was this a joke? Or are you certain the configuration includes CX F?

I had heard it was the J/PE/Y 77W I linked
