You have as much access to that information by doing a dummy booking as anybody else on here will.

Certainly seems more likely with both J4 and A7.
That said, the 77W flight seem a much better proposition for clearing upgrades than the 789v1 or 2.

Noob here: how did you find this information? I assume that is the number of seats available for each booking class

Expertflyer is the easiest to access.

Yes how many in each booking class. Doesn't show how many free as they overlap. And will never show more than 9 as need to do group bookings for groups of more than 9.

As above. The following is a reasonable explanation https://www.executivetraveller.com/e...s-fare-buckets

Essentially is is all about revenue management. Airlines control how many seats they are willing to sell in each fare ‘bucket’. For example, Air NZ business cabin has fare classes C, D, Z and J - from most expensive/flexible to cheapest and least flexible. To manage demand, the airline may choose to offer more (or fewer) seats in each bucket. J class is typically, but not always, used for business sales. Slow sales, and maybe some Z and J class will be released. High season, maybe these Z and J fares will never be offered.

There is also follow-on information variations after fare bucket ‘letter’ to represent things such as seasonal fares, advance purchase etc. So there can be a range of J business fares, known as a specific ‘fare basis’. See the following extract from ExpertFlyer on one-way fares AKL-ICN. The cheapest JHSVKR7 has a 7, which in the detailed fare rules stipulates (amongst other things) confirmation of the fare is required no later than 7 days prior to travel:

To clarify this - NZ allow up to 9 seats in each booking class when booked directly with NZ (online/call centre). However, when booking in the GDS, it's limited to 4 in BP and 7 in PE/Y.

More than nine seats available

Figured out how to check the availability over 9 seats

Buy nine BP seats fully flexible.

Then buy another nine .

Keep doing until you can't buy nine then try eight

After the exercise cancel the tickets and wait for the refund.

This is all theorical as I don't have that much available credit on my card nor do I have that much money or points to try it out

Maybe try using several Fare Holds if you are super curious, and dont mind throwing away $35 for each hold 😎
