Rejected request for FF seating as Premier Platinum, MileagePlus

Got in touch with Air NZ today to kindly request access to FF seating on a few flights upcoming using my United *G. Was told no.. didn't argue as it's not a published benefit. Shame.

There was a thread about this a while back. Unfortunate really.

As a TG*G for many years I appreciated this from NZ staff as it is not a *A benefit. Indeed, I had access to the ff seat maps until a year or so ago.

But it seems there has been a removal of flexibility/discretion for agents to do this. Pity.

Other Star Alliance carriers dont offer this, so I have no issue with Air NZ sticking to the rules. Its nice to see a post that is informative and not complaining, so sorry to OP that Air NZ hasnt offered it anyway. I hope you have a good flight.

Even though it's not a *G benefit United used to offer Economy Plus seating for *G if your asked nicely at check-in but stopped doing that around 2018 or so.

Used to also be able to politely request upgrade to J at the gate on United as *G in the past - this also ended around the same time. Was very much YMMV, but always greatly appreciated when it happened.

Yes I find UA quite generous in that regard. Have only been turned down once as E+ was full.

Interesting.. I just always used to ask at Premier check-in and they're normally do it subject to space.

On my last flights which were a couple in 2018 and a couple in 2019 they all said no and that they didn't do this any longer.

Humm granted I haven't done any post-pandemic travel on UA so would appreciate any recent updates as well

Ive done about 10 post pandemic flights last year and this year on UA domestic. And every time except once the agents on the app chat line have assigned seats. I just say that I have my *G number in the booking but cant seem to select X seat (being specific with the one I want). If theyre a good agent they just assign with the usual just this once blurb, and if they say you need to pay I say that I thought *G did get it and they go away and come back saying they can assign it with the just this once blurb. I figure there is some internal policy that lets them do it.

One time the agent refused and just copied and pasted *G benefits from the website. I just tried again and the next one did it no issues.

I also did the same two weeks ago with two flights NRT-GUM and GUM-NRT and they were perfectly happy to bump me up - in the end, I had the entire row to myself on both routes.
