I have a good amount of NZD credit I am considering using up on a SFO-AKL ticket. Tickets ex-SFO are obviously priced in USD.

Does anyone have any experience using NZD credit to book flights not priced in NZD (e.g. USD, AUD etc)?

Tried looking on Air NZ website and couldn't find anything specifically for this situation in all the info they have about credits incuding their T&Cs. Closest I can find is that NZ claims credit can be used for any flight booked via their website or call centre. The computer programmer in me suspects this is not the full story due to currency conversion etc that would need to be done to process a USD booking using NZD credit...!

Any pointers to where NZ does state they do/do not support this -- or even better actual experience of making such a booking?

Never done this myself but I suspect it’s likely that you’ll have to book through the contact centre as they’ll need to issue your ticket in NZD to use the credit.

Your simply need to contact the call centre to book. They will convert and ticket but a service charge obviously does apply.

I’ve redeemed APD (treated as NZD) for flights ex-USA, so priced in USD. It can be done through the call centre, the APD get converted to USD at the exchange rate at the time of booking. Every time I’ve done it they’ve waived the service fee since it can’t be done online.
