They say WLG won't get flights until non citizens & residents allowed in. So guess CHC won't ramp pass what it has now until later.

CHC-BNE and CHC-SYD are up and running now (not sure about daily, but definitely a few times a week). I think MEL won't be introduced for a little while yet, however, yesterday's annoucement will definitely help.

CHC MEL starts tomorrow Wednesday (09:20 11:15). Then Friday & Sunday. Non stops CHC MEL 3 days a week at this time.

As demand increases (both ways) would expect more flights. If demand drops schedule cancellations may happen.
Need the border to open up to people from AU (AU citizens/PR etc) sooner before demand increases (Currently step 4 is July without 7 days isolation). NZ, QF & JQ will be waiting for that July date to be bought forward.

Step 4 — By July 2022
The following fully vaccinated people can enter New Zealand:
  • All travellers from Australia.
  • Visitors from countries who do not need a visa (visa waiver visitors).
  • Visitors from other countries who already hold a valid visitor visa.
  • From July, travellers arriving under the Accredited Employer Work Visa categories

QF anticipating tomorrows NZ Govt (possible) announcement?
A few years ago was 2 to 4 CHC-MEL non stop flights a day [ NZ QF JQ VA CI ]
Many Air NZ TT flights now for sale seem to be ~$100 more one way than pricing a month ago.

Easter uptake across the Tasman has been quite healthy.

Remember taxes and charges have gone up on TT flights as well. They're around NZ$280 for a return trip now.

I was just looking at flights and I couldn't get anything 12th April to 15th April SYD-CH, absolutely no flights. I take it all flights are fully booked?

There's no direct flight scheduled for the the 12th yet, but is for 13/14/15, so yes, either they're fully booked or if they've just been loaded, the availability could be about to drop in. I'd keep an eye out for additional services which may be added.

Easter (15-16-17-18 April) is always busy time for flights. More than Christmas - New Year period, which spreads over more days for some people

Given there is now almost unlimited travel between New Zealand and Australia, when will the airlines ramp up their schedules again. There are now multiple days with literally zero seats available ex-SYD. I'm sure NZ and QF are getting a nice premium for the tickets they have sold, but wouldn't they make more money by putting more aircraft in the sky? Eg NZ is flying SYD-WLG-SYD 3x/week in April, and QF isn't flying it at all.

I'm perplexed as to why the airlines are being so slow to reinstate at least *slightly* more normal flight schedules.

Putting aircraft is sky is one thing. Getting enough crew who are current(qualified) and not in isolation due to CV19 themselves or others in their household is another.

In AU flight schedules are changing frequently. Some is rumoured to be crewing issues. JQ has very limited TT flights, VA have put back AU<---->NZ flights by a few months, But Qatar is selling ADL-AKL from 13 April. And LA AKL-SYD (need to check date)

Edit
A post by an AU pilot on AFF
I’m on full time rosters but not flying full time hours. So far a lot has been spent on reserve. This is a personnel issue with many ports still struggling to attain people after the lockdowns including ground crew/pit crew/cabin crew, etc. A lot have found other jobs during that time that most likely have paid more so they’ve left.

I’m told the company want to fly around 19,000 block hours next month (similar to pre Covid levels) but I just don’t see them hitting it. We still don’t have enough planes or crew for those kinds of hours.

I agree. It's now cheaper and easier for me to fly from Brisbane or the Gold Coast to Singapore than it is to Christchurch.

Back almost 10 years ago I'd cross the Tasman so frequently on NZ801 and NZ804 that I got to know many of the Christchurch based crew. Sadly those days are gone and instead we end up with a mixture of weird times or worse still a transit through Sydney or Auckland.

Was a time where some CHCH based crew would notice I was not sitting in my usual aisle exit row 14D seat on my MEL-CHC-MEL flights
