If you are used to *G internationally then Koru or Priority Pass is a poor substitute in my opinion.
I have done a similar thing as you are proposing - paying more in order to extend my *G membership - despite having reduced travel at the moment. The benefits of *G are worth it for the travel I am doing, and retaining in the long term is easier than getting to that level again.

It looks like SP rate got worse. Difficult to find $10 per point flights.
I would like to get my first gold. Just booked a trip to Europe, but realized that the fare (operated by LH) is not eligible for SP. And now I'm missing about 70 points, which need obtain to by June.
Any suggestions with a good SP rate?

With all planned flights I will have like
~388 collected by flying.
Already have 400 SP by credit cards (heaps of work related spendings), +50 SP shouldnt be a problem.
there is a chance if one of my LH flights gets canceled or missed connection, I can get a new ticket with an eligible for SP fare.

Looked domestically? CHC-WLG full Y $413 for 36 SP ($11.47/SP), or P class $119 for 10 SP ($11.9/SP). FlexiRefunds seem to offer a marginally better earn than Seat.

there is an option to fly from IST to EVN via ATH with Aegean for $464 for RT, and it should be 70 SP in total.

Yeah short haul J sectors in the US/EU are the move.
I miss when you could SDC on UA as NZ*G for free, I had a bit of free time and parlayed a cheap P fare IAD-SFO into IAD-EWR-DEN-IAH-SFO, and a bunch of SP. Good times.

Is this officially not possible now? I used it a few times historically just because I could but never exploited the routing loophole for SP earn but have a few friends who had some rather interesting journeys!

Dunno about official but they locked it down sometime during the pandemic, I don't even see SDC anymore when crediting to NZ in the UA app.

I have recently flown PMR-AKL-CHC (bit crazy to fly north to go South), however, a fully flexi ticket (circa $450 each way) yields arounds 70 SPs.

Back in the days when UA still had domestic first - those A fares were even better for this.
