AKL unscheduled runway maintenance

For the second time in two weeks AKL was temporarily closed on 6 February 2020 to make urgent repairs on the runway. A fairly short outage this time - closed for a little over an hour.

The frequency of these kind of incidents makes it difficult to have a decent connection time that works.

Once again AKL putting (frankly obscene) profits over investment and passengers?

They are hopeless in communications.

I showed up at the airport 3 times in recent times only to find everyone queuing outside the airport with no one knowing what is going on.

Is that AIA fault or the airlines fault? The airlines are the airports customer and the passengers are the airlines customer. Pretty much every airport notice published says please contact your airline to see how it affects your flight.

The airline should be doing the passenger comms not the airport.

I was fortunate that inbound EK448 lands in the AM and does not depart from almost 12 hours later - so my flight was fine on Thursday night!

AIAL have never done anything until after it's needed - be that upgrades, bigger terminals, new gates.. For the last 20 years that's been their business model.

This just continues the trend..

Not sure if I should like that comment because it is accurate or not like it because it is true.

It's the NZ way of doing business: the next quarter's profits are all that matters.
