Double stacking RUs

Morning all,

Ive just tried to double stack RU from Y-J and have been told they must come from the same account. A friend and I both had a lone RU about to expire and so we tossed a coin as we figured a double stack would exert more bang for the buck. The call centre have told us that they must come from the same account. Ive not come across this before - is it true? A brief look at the T and C doesnt say so..

Both Elite, both on each others gifting register, R class available.

Anyone had this experience?

Thanks

Always been this way. You can't be gifted a RU and use one of your own to double stack. Every (smart) man and his dog would exploit this if you could..

That's rough. I don't see how double stacking a gifted RU is any more exploiting the system than gifting a single RU. My father gifted x2 RUs to me and they got double stacked, in my books that's no different to using one of mine and one of his to get the same outcome.

Umm there mere fact it allows you to go from economy to business with split RU's is the exploit. If you can't understand the revenue implications for the airline of this occurring then maybe you're not the sort of person who would be actively exploiting it.

Imagine if even Silver members could jump straight to BP from Economy because somebody gifted them a RU to stack on top of their own - there would suddenly be a massive increase in the number of people trying for BP upgrades from economy with zero revenue gain for Air NZ.

I agree with sbiddle.

I am also sure there is some applicable permutation and combination theory that can be applied to this to prove that there are very many more possibilities for ‘double stacked RUs’ if 2 single RUs are combined from different sources, than from a single source using 2 RUs.
