Paying entry on arrival at Koru Lounge?

Currently sitting in the WLG domestic lounge and just saw a Gold Elite try to bring in 7 guests. The sixth and seventh guest were denied entry, but the lounge attendant said they could enter for a charge of $45.00 each. Is paying for entry on arrival a new development? Seems counter to what Air NZ is trying to do in limiting the number of guests into the lounge at peak times - they must be getting especially reamed during the school holiday period.

Itís only a charge for extra guests accompanied by someone already entitled to lounge access - if thereís space in the lounge. You canít walk up and buy access for example if you arenít entitled to it through FF status/Koru/lounge passes
