Impressive queues at security for NZ698 this morning. Koru lounge opened at 4.55am, and we were told to leave by 5.20am for security. Took 25 minutes and there were plenty in line after me. The free chocolates helped! No celebs as far as I could tell, but plenty of media filming and interviewing passengers.

How many xray machines and metal detectors do they have there? One or two?

That's almost getting close to ZQN levels of inefficiency and delays!

One X-ray and metal detector, two people on scanning. Most people appeared to need scanning (including me). Apparently my high heels might have set off the detector (dont think that they have done that before).

Is there spare sitting to the side or is it going to be bad when there is a fault and can't let anyone onto the plane? At that point do they just fly the plane empty to Auckland so not too miss the later flights?

When you say two people on scanning are you meaning two standing there operating the metal detector? Most of the delays at ZQN (35 mins for me last Wed and 25 the previous Sat) are because they use a single xray and metal detector but only ever one have one Avsec staff member manning the metal detector which means every time it goes off the whole queue stops.

Proper process should be to have two staff so while one is doing the pat-down that others can continue to be screened.

Two on handheld scanners. This did hold up the queue as we had to wait while others who had set off detector were given the once-over. The two people immediately in front of me needed this treatment as well.

Much better this morning. Announcements encouraging those on NZ698 to proceed immediately through security, with food and beverages available once through (landslide cafe is closed). No queues at this stage. Koru lounge staff still encouraging guests to head through at 5:20.

My memory is hazy, but how long ago was it that Shadbolt wanted to get some international flights to IVC?

Yes 699 leaves AKL in the evening and 698 leaves INV first thing in morning. So people can do a fall day in AKL

No kidding!
At ~11020 miles, they'd have to come up with an aircraft capable of flying it first! ^
