Woman Removed from Flight After Refusing to Watch Safety Video

"We appreciate your complete attention... or else."

https://www.independent.co.uk/travel...-a8902506.html

Please tell me there is more to this story. Unless she posed a clear threat to herself or others, this was one hell of a power trip.

Like many people on FlyerTalk, I can recite the video word-for-word in multiple languages. I try to be polite and and at least pretend to watch it. And I'm usually the only person paying even the slightest bit of attention. But--really--could they just ask me to take a quiz, and I could be exempted for a while?

Link is broken for me. Here's an alternative.

According to the article it sounds like she was using her cell phone during the safety briefing. Of course if the airline tossed everyone that didn't pay attention, there would be more room in coach..

Sounds like she wouldn't get off her phone: "The passenger will receive an infringement notice under Civil Aviation Authority rules relating to the use of a cellphone".

There is more of a story here.

Indeed, @silverfox.
She put her fingers in her ears?
Sounds like she was acting out, to put it mildly.

There is so much going on that Independent page I can't make heads or tails from all the crap on it. Nonetheless it looks like a Kiwi wouldn't get off her phone and was escorted off.

End of story.

That made me laugh. I stop talking and try to at least look like I'm paying attention, but honestly, when you've got a three-segment itinerary, it's a bit of a drag. It's ridiculous that it is a drag - it is only a couple minutes, after all. I actually did make it a point to watch the old Delta videos with Deltalina and the subsequent funny ones before they went boring again.

No, the guy traveling with her also got kicked off for using a cell phone but she was the only one arrested.

Lots of carriers permit phones to be used in airplane mode.

Didn't the FA think that people can multitask? OTOH they were sitting in an exit row, so the safety briefing affects others more.

Safety Video kicking people off the plane

https://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/trave...w-instructions

Think the most important part is the people kick off for not paying attention were in a exit row. Pretty much any other row it would have been fine

I often wondered about this. What functionality is left when toggled to airplane mode? I mean data and phone are gone so no internet, phone or email.

anyway, thanks for the correction. I couldn't see where her mate was in the story.

Instead of having the safety briefing ahead of every flight, why not offer it as an online video module that flyers must complete prior to check in?
