Sure there will be staff familiarisation and positioning flights but not sure they would be scheduling those this early.
The 321neo's have been doing some domestics so it makes sense that we'd see 320neo's doing some too.

My understanding that the NEOs currently doing domestic are staff familiarisation, positioning, fillers etc Come Sept there will be the ETOPS A320CEOs will be properly part of the domestic fleet so will cover the extra capacity. Staff/airport familiarisation will not be a thing when the NEO fleet is bigger and regularly flying out of all the cities.

Just a row 1 in September on a domestic flight I think is more likely to be an ETOPS A320CEO opposed to a A320NEO.

What is the difference between 320CEO and 320NEO in terms of seatmap as laid out on NZ’s website?

I assumed 320NEO as the seatmap on the booking page matched that of the 320NEO on the seatmap page - specifically the ability to select row 1DEF.

Which is only meant to be temporary until the first of 7 non-ETOPS 321NEO's arrive for Domestic.

Remember there are two A320ceo seat maps - the A320R and A320D.

A320D has 1ABC but no 1DEF (starts at 2 on right hand side), A320R has 1ABC and 1DEF

A320neo has no 1ABC (has a bulkhead on this side and starts at 2) but has 1DEF.

You'd need to check the NZ fleet info in their reports but I'm pretty sure from memory the A320R aircraft that are joining the domestic fleet aren't being returned until 2022. The whole 7 A321neo for domestic won't be here until 2024.

Thanks, just checked and indeed with 6 row 1 seats it is a A320R. Must have been tired when I checked.....

Just to be sure - row 11 (A/B/C) is an emergency exit row, so the seat backs do not recline, right? The online seat map at airnewzealand.com suggests 11C has a "5cm" recline - must be an error?

@tr3k the version with 5cm recline in row 11 is the A320R international https://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/seat...rbus-a320-168i

Ah, thank you - looks like I mixed up those plane models. Curious that they have recline in the row in front of the emergency exit.

Though note no recline in 11A or 11F, presumably because those are the window seats that are right in front of the overwing exit.

I was looking at some TT flights and just realized that NZ uses all economy class planes for flights that range from 3 to 5.5 hours which means 3.5 to 6 hours in your seat.

They do offer to block a middle seat, that’s as enticing as their Taupo beef offering (no pun intended).

Canadian market uses the same or similar narrow body aircraft for similar and shorter length routes, but all have a business class cabin in a 2-2 configuration, 38”, decent recline and business class service.

Surely Kiwis and Ozzie’s could fill 12-16 business class seats at a premium price, or FFs burn APDs and RUs

How can NZ remain competitive for the premium market when they have limited business class TT options?

They have works deluxe where the middle seat is blocked on the A320/1 NEOs. They have Wide Bodies on some TT and island flights to provide better seats.

The widbodies often align with the NA flights to provide PE and J for the entire journey.

taupo - at least those based in AKL have some choice for wide-bodies TT.

Since I depart Ex-WLG that means 320 or route via AKL.
