New SP earn TT

I see Air NZ promoting new higher SP earn TT. Has anybody looked into this yet?

I wondered if they were going to make any adjustments after hearing about forecasted profits. Might be up ~ 3-4 SP. Suppose it all adds up.

There are some interesting observations at the moment.

I was genuinely shocked to see on my way home from Australia in a few days my sp earn will be 15, and I purchased that fare heavily discounted. On the way going there my earn is maybe 8 at most? So it might be that it's kicking in February.

Just received my monthly airpoints email and it mentions more SPs for Works fares.

ĒWeíre pleased to let you know that youíll earn more Status Points when travelling on many Works fares across the Tasman. Check out our Airpoints calculator to find out how many Status Points you could earn.Ē

I've briefly looked at this and the changes seem pretty minor. They're clearly looking to upsell pax to The Works as a revenue move.

Earn calculations are still a mess TT with no real relationship between spend and earn. You can have very small differences in fare prices (only a few $) that bump you do a different booking class which will change earn quite sifnificantly.

I've just looked at two upcoming trips I've booked which were both cheap fares.

WLG-BNE was $362 r/t ($162 fare and $200 tax) for a total of 7 SP over and 8 SP back.
WLG-SYD was $361 r/t ($168 fare and $193 tax) for a total of 15 SP over and 8 SP back.

Looks like the changes came into effect from 21 January 2019.

Seems that they put up Works SP, but left Works Deluxe the same. Not sure how that's fair, but we are talking about Airpoints after all.

Also interesting is that you now earn Status points on QF Codeshares. I canít help but wonder if the QF deal is maybe not paying the dividends they thought it would...

And at a pretty prodigious rate too. BNE to NTL nets 15 SP in Discount Economy and 40 in Business! That's more than AKL to WLG on mainline NZ!

The adjustment could be to somewhat bridge the wide gap in SP earn on NZ vs QF. In addition QF also has lower status requal.

A quick check shows some TT flights cost $100 more on Works Deluxe than Works for an extra 1SP.
That makes for a horrible $ to SP yield.
The system is still broken but NZ can always spin the SP roulette earn wheel again.
