Price of Wifi

Flew NZ123 today. Received app notification that WiFi avail - very surprised that price was $40 for flight - higher than many options in pricing survey they sent last year and to me seemed quite pricey for an approx 3 and a half hour flight. Also surprised no 1hr option.

That is priced above anything else I've seen. Can't see the uptake being high at that price. Then there's no point in having it if uptake isn't great. Wonder if they're testing the waters.

Yes that's very high. Sounds like bandwidth was marginal and they've decided to price so only business travelers will use it. One business traveler sending emails @ $40 is much easier on the system than 2 teenagers @ $20 each trying to stream youtube.

I'd happily use it on long haul if APD can be spent that way.

I just got a notification for NZ28 but I can't find the price anywhere. It says you can pay with APD.

Ouch. That's fairly steep. I suppose from a business perspective they may decide to price it 25-30% above what people are prepared to pay and see if it sticks. Then if it doesn't pan out and they put the price down it looks like a good corporate gesture.

Is there a link to more information about this?

FSM said some of his recent flights no one had purchased at all.
NZ will quickly figure out their price point.

Interested as to what price the system has displayed for others on longer flights - if $40 for 3.5hr what is price set for AKL-LAX etc

The price was $40 to Houston. The FSM said they were trialling that as a price point. I'm not sure there were many takers. I said it should be free in J and she said they had lots of people saying that.

Not as bad as $40 to Melbourne but still expensive.
