Can't recall when it was confirmed although I think I submitted it within 24hrs of departure.

I think they black out a couple of seats in PE so it might be possible to snag those but I have visions of being seated in the middle and rows apart or something. Not ideal but doable I guess. I've only done this once short haul and been successful. I've never requested APD upgrades long haul.

Both upgrades requested around 2 months out at the time of the original PE booking in early December - pleasantly surprised to see both clear given the route and a Saturday departure - Air NZ team in Wellington were absolutely fantastic in terms of getting confirmation of the upgrade for the first leg ex AKL!
