Merits/Pitfalls of Chasing VA Gold vs renewing NZ Koru

Looking at upcoming travel plans for this year, unlikley to come anywhere near NZ *G. Mainly domestic flights, with several TT's and a multi city Asia trip planned for end of the year.
Currently pay for Koru via APD CC and get the subsidised rate.
Other than some soft benefits, seat select etc, it looks as though chasing a VA Gold status would give me the lounge access in NZ, nd baggage allowances when travelling TT?
Perhaps someone who dabbles in both would be able to message me and have a quick conversation around this?
Thanks in advance!

Wouldn't sound like anywhere near enough to earn status. Isn't there pretty much zero status earn on NZ domestic now?

Family pooling with the Mrs Wrijo would effectively reduce the earn requirement by half?

My understanding is that Shairpoints allows Airpoints to be pooled, but not status points. Would be great if they followed VA's lead!

Yes, aware of this, however I was referencing VAs policy on status points being able to be pooled.
Would be great but cant see it. Pulled the calculator out last night and with a couple of extra trips, may hit Gold due to CC spend.

In effect yes pooling from Mrs. Wrijo will help you get Gold faster.

And certain domestic NZ fare classes will get you status credits on VA.

Air New Zealand - Domestic New Zealand: Q, H, M, V, L, G, W, T
Air New Zealand - Domestic New Zealand: Y, B

I'd say go for it if NZ Gold is too far for you. You basically get the same benefits on Domestic and TT flights.

Virgin gold benefits

I think you get more benefits TT as buying a seat only they still give you a free bag allowance (on a Virgin ticket) but Koru does not
