Gate Check In using E-Ticket
Whilst waiting amongst the disrupts at ROT today, I overheard a CSA tell a customer that from tomorrow (or next week) you will not be able to check in at the gate using the barcode on your E Ticket. I have always used the mobile app to check in, but I guess there would be people that use the E-Ticket. Obviously not that many given I haven't heard anything from Air NZ.... :)

Well technically it is a ticket not a boarding pass. I have never done an e boarding pass that have printed out so can't compare the difference in data stored in eticket barcode Vs print at home boarding pass.
Suspect the etickets are now lacking a piece of information they now want? |
It would seem based on other recent posts on here that NZ want you to check in
ForFor 7-8 years now with mPass and NFC tag there has never been a requirement to actually check in. Visiting Koru automatically checks you in. |
Here's what happens when you don't check in
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=11886245 It's why I've always checked in despite there being no technical reason why you needed to after I'd had friends bumped years ago for this very same reason. |
Just to add to this I was told a few days ago the gate machine will also no longer print the paper boarding passes and you'll just show your phone on boarding. Has this kicked in yet? (I'm in Europe so not flying this week)

I also remember when they introduced online check in for the first time. Flights were often late departing as pax had checked in, available from time of booking, but no show however system said "checked in" so flights were held. It seems NZ may be going back to tight check in cut off times to improve OTP. |
I too started checking in a few years ago due this very reason - but don't to for most as scanning into Koru does check you in.

I suppose a simple clarification to always check in recruitment would suffice. I can imagine they left this vague for the purposes of bumping people

How about looking at the other way?
It doesn't say anywhere that you don't need to check in.. and hasn't for a number of years. |
So..... if one wants to check in takes ~30 sec using App on phone from 24h before, or am I missing something?

However I deleted my NZ App for a couple of reasons, I know others who did it as well a couple of years ago, but NZ may have resolved the issues in subsequent releases. However IIRC by checking in, which ever method, made subsequent changes to flights a little more difficult. You needed a member of NZ staff to do the change and that this ability was removed from the Koru Club staff for a while. This may have all changed in the past year where I have only flown NZ 4 times. |

If checked in does it make it more complicated to change flights using a flexi ticket? I have often avoided checking in to allow easy flights changes via the App.
