Preferential seating

When the 'Powers that be' are deciding on RUs, do they take into account Koro memberships? That's if there're only Preferential /Frequent Flyer seating available.

Nope. Koru should really be a glorified NZ lounge access with better perks/recognition than other lounge memberships. If Koru had any weighting, surely many Elites would just pay for the membership?

Koru is irrelevant. It's your Airpoints status that matters.

There's probably few koru members with RUs other than Silver members who can get single RU per year or a few recently qualified Golds. One of the benefits of reaching Gold or above is that you receive the majority if not all of the koru perks without needing to pay for membership and in fact Air NZ don't even send you a reminder or message to renew koru once you achieve Gold.

Thanks for all that. Doesn't look very hopeful then.

What route are you thinking of applying the RU?

Why do you assume that?

RU's are a lottery and Koru has nothing to do with them. As to whether your RU will clear that's a very different question and depends entirely on how many other people are ahead of you in the RU list.

I assume that because when I did a dummy booking there were several preferential seats available (which I would be eligible for as a Koru member) but only a couple of ordinary seats. I am only Silver, so I'm down the chain. Statuses above me would take those.

Preferred seats mean nothing in the context of an RU - they don't just upgrade HVC's to preferred seats and everybody else to the other seats if that's what your thinking.

If you're talking about the pink preferred seats you can just buy those. Passengers with status also need to buy these. If you're talking about the yellow seats then you should be able to select as a koru member. Black seats are blocked.
