You are right - sorry I'm referring to an earlier thread that decisions are made purely on optimising seat configurations. I've merged the two issues together. My bad.

The only missed out the failed upgrades

The Spaceseat (and the abortive steam ovens) should be a case study in business school about abject failure to pilot a concept, and for (relatively small) businesses seeking to vertically integrate to deliver innovation.

It's a sign of the absence of serious business journalism in NZ that this wasn't reported on as a major and costly foul-up by Rob Fyfe. The fact he got an honorary doctorate in commerce from the University of Canterbury presumably reflects more on his role at Icebreaker.
