End of the 763s
Flew on NCI yesterday. Before takeoff pilot talked about how the 763 fleet was down to two and they finish at the end of the month. He said the cabin crew were looking forward to new digital planes but I thought he sounded a little wistful, and an unusual thing to announce maybe.
I then watched a couple of kids thwarted by the sluggish IFE. Youngsters are used to something much more responsive these days :-)

According to this article, they are still being scheduled till 31st March 2017, with the last service being NZ108 SYD-AKL: http://www.aviationwa.org.au/2016/08...in-march-2017/
That and my AKL-SYD flight early March is still showing as 763, with seat-map to match.
I for one would not be sad to see them go...

I had the "pleasure" of flying them waaaay back in the day, when they used them on the AKL-HKG route.
As for the ease of upgrades on TT routes, I guess PE changed that dynamic a whole lot.
Would rather APD100 to jump to 789/772/77W PE rather than the APD250 to J on 763, at least to me the former is MUCH better value for money.

Whilst I always now book seat only and upgrade to PE on a 777, I will miss 19A or 19K on the 763 if I am ever stuck in economy TT.

It was the best economy experience in the whole NZ fleet (even better if you got 10A/10B). The days of economy actually being enjoyable are soon to be over.

i don't think people comprehend how good it is compared to other airlines. Flew LX ZRH-NRT last week and still have a sore back from the seat that should've been phased out 20 years ago. 12 hours of Japanese TV and an immovable headrest. The 83cm pitch in skycouch row on 789 was a welcome change for this 200cm tall passenger!
