Is this really how gold qualification works?
 
I was sitting at 35 status points needed to upgrade to gold, I knew that c. 50 would expire on 4 Jan, so I booked enough travel to get 60 points from UA flights taken on 28 Dec. The points finally posted today ... and since the 60 from last year already expired it says I'm still at silver! Did I miss something? Isn't it the points accumulated during flights taken within a calendar year? It seems perverse that simply the late posting of my UA flights keeps me from qualifying. Do I have a case to call in to customer service?

To my knowledge, Airpoints Dollars and Status Points are meant to be back credited against the time of the actual flight they apply to. I would ring the Call Centre, they should be able to correct it for you.

I had the same problem when moving from silver to gold. After flying to the UK I had 8 status points left to qualify for gold. However, upon my return and the accreditation of my homebound flights I saw that I apparently had 9 points left to qualify - despite earning more than the 8 points I supposedly needed. I got in contact with Air New Zealand and it was sorted out for me.

Just to clarify its a rolling 12 month period to obtain the required number of SP to reach a tier. eg June to June or Aug to Aug, just depends on when you've flown the required number of SP by.

For comparison I see you're a QF FF also - they work on your anniversary date of joining.

I agree with others, SP should be accrued on the date you flew. The fact they credited later due to the holiday period shouldn't be held against you. Definitely call in or email (my preference for something like this is the phone).

Yes, I'm pretty sure I understand the rolling deadline, though I find it inconvenient there's no warning of impending expiry (I can figure it out through my own records, but it's still a pain). I called in and they've referred the matter to an "Airpoints specialist". So, no easy resolution it seems, though after some time the agent seemed to grasp what I was talking about.

It's called smoke and mirrors that they employ. Also note there is no way to quickly find out the cumulative flights you took to achieve the SP. Best of luck and welcome to Gold soon

I recall running an excel sheet with all flight AP and SC, and manually tracking where I stood as 'hings fell off one end and were added on the other.

This spoeadsheet, of course, held no water with Air NZ. But I did use it as 'evidence' when Air NZ gave me complementary Gold Status for my birthday. Problem was I was already TG*G with THAI, and had carefully planned to gain NZ*G just as my TG*G ran out in 6 months time. It took a long email and a number of follow-up calls, as it must have seemed counter-intuitive for a customer to NOT want to accept NZ*G. It did all work out in the end...

myairnz shows the last 12 months records so it's very easy to see SP/APD earn and you only need to look at the same month from a year ago to see when SP will drop off.

FWIW I've never had non NZ ticketed * flights ever credited on the day they were earned.

I'm in the US at present and just had an app notification of SP earn for my IAH to LAS flight from the 3rd. myairnz shows 20SP credited on the 5th for travel on the 3rd

My experience with United and Brussels Airlines is to expect a 2-3 day delay in getting them posted. I don't think it's ever been less than that.

That would be a useful feature online. The "Qualifying Status Points" box in myairnz I guess is the rolling 12 months, but it doesn't show when points drop off, which would be useful without having to wade back through statements online, or am I missing something?

I think they are meant to drop off exactly 12 months to the day after they have been earned.

That might just be right .... I had a situation a couple of months back where I was due to travel 4 domestic flights and a quick Business Class trans tasman trip that would have taken me back to status with NZ, but a few days prior 140 points dropped off my account! The daily rolling total would make sense of why, when I was expecting the points to show on my account right through the month.

Rolling 12 months has always been 12 months with points expiring on the day. It'd be extremely unfair if it was monthly, some people would effectively get 13 months.
