Westpac bumps BNZ as Air NZ points partner
Westpac has replaced rival bank BNZ as Air New Zealand's newest airpoints rewards partner, bringing an end to a relationship spanning almost two decades.
BNZ and Air New Zealand announced that they had decided not to renew the agreement between them, which would cease at midnight on April 30. Westpac will step into the void, offering a range of reward cards, an airpoints-earning mortgage, and other products to come. Air New Zealand said it had conducted a review into the value offered by BNZ. "Following the review, it was clear that Westpac were able to offer a wider range of airpoints earning products at better earn rates for our customers," the airline said. http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/6744...points-partner |
Oh well, no more GlobalPlus for me then.

What a shame. I have been a GlobalPlus card holder for more than a decade.

https://www.westpac.co.nz/credit-car...your-interest/ I have to say the design of the Westpac cards are ugly. I would much prefer to have the Koru logo to Airpoints logo. |
Have to spend more for each SP on Westpac than with Airpoints Plat card- not interested.

They ask specifically if you are a GlobalPlus cardholder. I wonder if they will match card type, credit limit, etc without the usual applying procedures.
It's a real pity from my perspective as the BNZ gave me a 3 year waiver on the annual fee for changing from the Gold Card to the Platinum card. |
Looks like its now pointless to have an GobalPlus, time to look for an new bank I think.
ANZ has got an deal we're you get an extra 100ADP if you spent $500 in your first 3 months. |
I rung Westpac straight away and the chap on the phone entered some details so they can assess which card they are going to offer me, didn't have to supply anything other than airpoints membership number and contact details. I asked if they would make me an offer without having to go through financial paperwork and he said yes, will wait and see what plays out...

I think this is only related to GlobalPlus products. The ability to convert Fly Buys points may be coming to an end though as you are required to be a GlobalPlus cardholder to do it. The highlight of the Westpac cards is the World MasterCard if you are a high spender with the best Airpoints earn rate, even better rate if you spend overseas. That's no surprise as Westpac charges the highest foreign exchange fee (2.5% vs BNZ's 2.25%). If it's like other World cards, it will also come with additional benefits such as Priority Pass lounge access and instant SPG Gold status with just 1 stay. Of course nothing beats the Kiwibank Plat Status earn. |
Pretty bad timing as we just got a BNZ credit card last week

Having looked through the Westpac options (and toyed with the idea of the Westpac Black card wich comes with Priority Pass) i'm thinking i'll probably move over to the Kiwibank Platinum card.
